be finished by morning.â
Tania didnât move.
âHey, Tania, get up. Tania?â Sandy dropped to his knees beside her.
âHey!â he cried. He turned to Eva, his face twisted in panic.
âSomethingâs really wrong with Tania! She isnât moving!â
chapter 8
Â
âS heâs not moving!â Sandy cried frantically. âShe wonât wake up!â
Eva and Keith raced to Taniaâs side. Before they reached her, Sandy grabbed her by the shoulders and tried to pull her into a sitting position.
âTania, wake up!â he cried hoarsely. âWake up!â
Taniaâs head flopped back as Sandy shook her.
âStop it, Sandy!â Eva shouted. She dropped to the grass and cradled Taniaâs head in her hands. âLet her back down! Youâre going to hurt her.â
âOh, wow!â Sandy quickly let go. As Tania fell back against Eva, she moaned softly and her eyelids fluttered.
âLook, sheâs coming around,â Keith murmured. âHey, Tania. What happened? You okay?â
âOf
course
sheâs not okay! Are you nuts or something?â Sandy snapped angrily at Keith. âDonât just stand there. Call for an ambulance!â
âSandy, shut up!â Eva cried. âTania just said something. Youâre yelling so loud, you didnât even hear her!â
Sandy scowled, then bent over Tania. âWhat is it?â he asked. âWhatâs wrong, Tania?â
âI said âno ambulance,ââ Tania whispered. âIâd die of embarrassment. I donât need a doctor. I need a candy bar.â
âBut â¦â
âItâs just the blood sugar thing,â Tania choked out. âToo much excitement again, I guess.â
Eva sighed with relief. âAnybody got some candy?â she asked.
âYeah. I have a Hersheyâs bar in my backpack,â Keith replied.
âWell, get it!â Sandy snapped.
Keith hurried to his pack, fished out the candy bar, and brought it back.
Tania sat up and ate it quickly. âThatâs better,â she announced, licking chocolate from her fingers. Then she started to get to her feet.
âWhoa, not so fast!â Sandy told her. âJust sit here for a while. Youâre still so pale, you know.â
Tania laughed. âSo are you, Sandy. Havenât you ever seen anyone faint before?â
âNot somebody I care about.â Sandy dropped next to her in the grass and slipped an arm around her shoulders. âYou really gave me a scare. I donâtknow what Iâd do if something really bad happened to you.â
Youâd run straight to Cherise for sympathy, Eva thought in disgust. And sheâd give you plenty of it.
âIâm fine,â Tania assured Sandy. âBut thanks for being so worried.â
Sandy smiled and pulled Tania closer to him.
Eva felt like gagging.
What a two-faced creep he is! she thought. Putting on this big dramatic act of caring about Tania. Acting as if sheâs the most important person in the world to him.
And all the time heâs sneaking around with somebody else.
Itâs like Keithâs video come true, she thought.
Thereâs just one differenceâTania doesnât know what a phony Sandy is. She doesnât know about Cherise.
I have to tell her, Eva decided, as she watched Sandy help Tania to her feet. Sandy has her fooled. She thinks heâs the greatest guy in the world.
She should know the truth about him. And I have to tell her.
âOkay!â Keith cried as Tania brushed blades of grass from her jeans. âIs everybody ready for another take?â
âKeith, I canât,â Tania declared, glancing at her watch. âI have to be in the auditorium in ten minutes. I have a rehearsal for the homecoming ceremony.â
âThis wonât take long,â Keith insisted. âYouâvegot the lines down cold. And the last take was
