say, “So doing the crime itself had nothing to do with it?” It would only add fuel to Shayla’s conspiracy theory. “Come on.”
She opened the car door, and a strong gust wind blew it backward, rendering it difficult to close. It was so cold it felt as though her nose hairs had turned to ice. Her eyes started to water, and she turned her head to the side, trying to avoid direct contact from the wind as they made their way to the building. Her frozen face seemed as if it would shatter with each step she took.
Out of the darkness, a spotlight shined on them. “Come any closer, and we will shoot!” a male voice boomed.
“You’re going to have to shoot me then because it is fucking cold out here, and we have nowhere else to go!” Emily screamed back, flipping him off at the same time. Vodka seemed to have given her a set of extra-large balls or it could have been the cold freezing her brain, she couldn’t really remember.
After the guards got tired of Emily cussing them out, they opened the gate, and a car came out, stopping in front of them.
“My shift’s over. Get in,” he said.
“What if he’s not a guard? He could be a serial killer stealing a guard’s car to come out and get us,” Shayla said.
Ignoring Shayla’s paranoia, Emily pushed her in the car, bumping her head against the door. The guard gave them a ride back to their campus.
Emily smiled in disbelief at the memory as she pulled up in her driveway. A black SUV was parked on the street in front of the empty lot next to her house, exactly where she instructed her security to park.
She pulled in the garage and got out the car. The door swung open before she had a chance to turn the handle. Antonio stood there, looking edible in his khaki pants and blue polo shirt with his company’s logo on the upper right side.
“What are you doing opening up my door?” Emily put her hands on her hips, pretending to be mad.
“It’s my shift. Remember I told you I work some shifts.” He stepped closer, invading her personal space.
“Whatever, move please.” She brushed past him but not before noticing his masculine physique. An eagle with Semper Fi written under it poked out from under his short sleeve on his lower right bicep. It had gone unnoticed at the interview, which she hadn’t seen him since. She wondered how many more he had on his olive skin. Thoughts of pulling him out to the garage and showing him why she was the owner of The Playhouse danced through her mind. Antonio’s muscles on his arms were calling out for her to let him grab her hair and pin her up against the wall as she wrapped her long legs around his waist ready, for whatever he was going to give her.
“…I hope you don’t mind,” Antonio finished.
“Don’t mind what?” She snapped back to reality and blushed. “I’m sorry. I have a few things on my mind.”
“I see.” He looked down at her, studying her a moment before continuing, “I said I went ahead and made dinner for you and Sean. Where is he?”
“He’s spending the weekend with his aunt. You cooked?”
As she walked into the kitchen, her senses were assaulted by the smell of spices and herbs. She tried to sneak a peek in the pots, but he batted her hands away.
Relenting, she backed away from her stove. “Smells good, what is it?”
“Lamb, mixed vegetables, and wild rice. I’m sure one of the girls will gladly eat his portion. To be honest, I’m kind of glad Sean isn’t here. I’d love to get to know you better since my shift doesn’t end until four in the morning.” He smiled.
“Lamb? Wow, there’s a lot more to you than I thought.” Emily disregarded the last part of his statement. She had no intention of staying up late with the man who made the inner sweetness between her thighs twitch just by looking at her.
Not only was her last encounter a year prior, but it had been a one night stand. Her last relationship had failed miserably when her ex learned of her true job as an adult
