ass was
still slightly sore, and my wrists ached a little despite the softness of the
material which had restrained me. Every muscle in my body had its own little
complaint about the way it had been mistreated, but I ignored them all,
snuggling closer to Mathis. I didn’t regret a moment of it. It had made me feel
so complete, and I’d seen a whole new side of myself and Mathis – it made me
more convinced than ever that we were meant to be together.

    Mathis stirred
behind me – my movement must have disturbed his sleep. I gave a little moan and
wriggled closer into him, wanting him to keep holding me. A second later, I
felt his manhood hardening where it pressed against my back, and I smiled,
instantly turned on again. Any further sleep or discussion we might have had
was put on hold as Mathis’ hand snuck down from its perch on my waist to find
my pussy, already wet for him.

    A while later,
after we’d satisfied ourselves once more, I was sprawled over his bare chest,
gently tracing a pattern on his tan skin as he surveyed me, his expression
soft.

    “So what happens
now?” I asked. I was almost afraid to ask the question, but I had to know. I
couldn’t go through the same thing again, of being isolated and kept out of the
loop. This was the best chance I had of getting Mathis to tell me what his plan
was – and of making sure there was a way for us to be together.

    Mathis frowned a
little as he thought to himself. “I know you don’t want to hear it,” he began.

    “I know,” I
interrupted him. “You don’t think we should see each other.”

    “Actually – I want
you, Amanda, and I never want to stop seeing you,” he said. For a moment my
heart rose, but it sank again as he continued.

    “But,” he said,
“there is no way you are going to convince me to put you in danger. I won’t do
that to you or to myself. The only way I can make sure of that is for you to
stay away from me for the time being – for your own protection.”

    “I know,” I sighed,
a little of the warm feeling of joy seeping out of me. “But I hate it – I miss
you, Mathis.”

    “I miss you too,
but I’d rather know you’re safe,” he said.

    “Yeah,” I sighed,
resigned. “But what are you going to do? Do you have a plan?”

    “Not as such,”
Mathis admitted. “Sooner or later these guys are going to get tired of waiting
around, and then they’ll try to do something in public. I just hope that when
the time comes they’ll get caught.”

    “What if you get
hurt – or your reputation gets damaged?” I asked.

    “It won’t happen,”
Mathis reassured me. “There’s nothing to tie me to those guys. All they can
prove is that they’ve been trying to get money out of me – and that will get
them arrested if it ever comes out.”

    “If you say so…” I
said warily. Then another thought occurred to me. “What about the girl you went
to that party with? Kathryn? Aren’t you…dating her?”

    “I’m not dating
her,” Mathis assured me. “Believe me, I don’t have any feelings for any other
woman, least of all her.”

    “But isn’t it
dangerous for her?” I asked. “Won’t she be at risk of getting hurt?”

    “No,” Mathis said
firmly. “Even if I don’t love her, I would never put anyone in any danger if I
could help it. Kathryn is the daughter of Walt Rossi.”

    “The guy who’s
running for mayor,” I nodded. I remembered this information from the party.

    “He’s a very
powerful politician who is popular with the public. Plus, he’s got a lot of
other very powerful men behind him,” Mathis explained. “The crime syndicate
won’t risk putting her in any danger. The boss is, at the least, smart enough
to know that.”

    I was relieved,
despite the fact that I automatically disliked her for having any possession of
Mathis at all, even if it was only a smokescreen.

    “She’s completely
safe,” Mathis
