kitchen.
    “How?” Jaylyn asked.
“No one knows.” Darius said. “Zayden will be there long before us. He’ll take care of it.”
I tried keeping in my tears so I could speak. “We should be with him. He shouldn’t have to do it alone.”
“He’s taking this hard as it is. Father planned to Crown him on his birthday.”
    Wet eyes widened. “What?!”
“He was trying to get himself to prepare for it but now he doesn’t have a choice and the circumstances are far worse.”
“Then we have to go.” I said, rushing passed them to get to the door. “Nonstop. Whatever it takes. He needs us.” Everyone followed and went upstairs to pack. I finished quickly and went into Seth’s room to see him sitting on his bed with Rift next to him. “Seth, are you packed?”
He lifted up a bag but didn’t say anything.
“It’s all right to be sad. Crying sometimes helps.”
    “Men don’t cry.”
“Please don’t make this hard. This is a very emotional time for your father. He needs you now.” Seth still didn’t say anything. “We have to go.”
Seth got up and followed downstairs and outside where everyone was waiting. Our horses were already readied for us and we had begun our journey east for the city.

    Chapter 9

    Zayden

My anxiousness to get there brought me into Randal within hours of receiving the news. All of the people remained saddened by the loss of the King and Queen and the walk felt long and quiet. People that were on the streets as I passed, bowed while I kept my head held high but I never responded. My mind was on one thing. The loss of my parents consumed me. I was still lost in devastation by the news but never even showed it. My exterior was completely expressionless.
Mourners greeted me at the palace gates and I was led to the burial chamber where I saw their bodies. They were laying together and just looked so peaceful like the way they were found in their bed. Everyone surrounded them and stood still and quiet while I was the last to approach.
I tried my best to keep in my emotion as I stood at the head of the stone slab and kissed each of their heads. I grazed my mother’s face with my fingertips as I backed away and the fire was brought in. I was handed the torch and slowly skimmed the wood around my parent’s bodies and left it there to finish the job. Everyone hung their heads as the fire consumed them but I did not. I kept my stare right into the fire.
After a while, everyone started to slowly leave until I was the only one left. I was still looking forward. The bodies have become unrecognizable and my eyes turned black. I wanted answers, explanations but there weren’t any. It only made things worse and I locked myself further away from everyone or wanted to.
When I left the burial chamber, there was a gathering in the main hall. I knew what it was for and said nothing as I walked through them to the throne.
“Our condolences in this dark time.” Said my father’s Royal Advisor. “Your father’s will has been reviewed and his entire estate is being transferred to you and yours, along with this.” The King crown was brought to me on a pillow. “You are now our King.”
The crown was placed on my head and I felt the burden of its weight. Everyone around me got down on their knees and bowed. I turned to see it and sat in the throne, keeping my expression blank and that’s where I stayed.
Days were passing and I was only seeming more lost from myself.

We had finally made it and I was just eager to get to Zayden.
“Don’t worry about all our stuff. We have to find him.”
We walked out of the stables without taking anything with us and headed to the palace doors.
“Found him.” Darius muttered the moment we stepped inside.
Zayden was in the throne. He was wearing the King crown but his eyes were empty and alone. He looked like stone. His breaths were barely visible
