say it was too late. Like not bothering to put out a fire when it’s small and then trying to use a glass of water to put it out after it’s taken the whole house. That’s what my mamma used to say, anyway.

I headed back to my dorm, feeling numb for a good while.
    Evan

“Why are you hanging around her? She’s nothing but trash looking to bum off you. I mean, you got her food, for crying out loud!”

As soon as I got home, Sally pulled me to the bed and screwed me dry. And afterwards, she became this raving lunatic before me. Her face was steaming red as she spoke.

“So, you’re comfortable with me fucking other women, but not having friends?” I pointed out.

“Maybe I’m not comfortable with either,” she replied. “I said something stupid, and you’re trying to take advantage of it by going after every girl possible. I didn’t even know your standards were so low.”

“She’s just a friend. I mean, why are you even caring that much, anyway?”

She crossed her arms and sighed. “Maybe you’re right. I’m just being a clingy bitch. But still, could you not hang out with her as much, and if you do, bring me along?”

I was the type of person who laughed when my friends got women who grabbed them by the balls. My best bro during middle to high school, Owen, became distant after dating a girl who stuck her claws deep into him. He always made excuses not to hang with me, and when I tried talking to him about it, he swore it wasn’t her, and that he just changed. But I always knew it was her controlling him, and didn’t get why he didn’t stand up for himself.

But now, I saw why. If Owen’s girlfriend was as crazy as Sally, I understood why he no longer hung with me that much. This chick was freakin’ bonkers, and I’ve been with some nuts before.

“Okay,” I lied. As if I would bring her around anywhere.

Jesus, dude. Just tell her off. That’s what my conscious was saying. However, I didn’t say anything just yet. The glare she gave me caused me to be silent.

“Good. What about her makes a good friend, anyway?”

“She’s good to talk to,” I said. “She listens. I dunno.”

Her face turned red again. “And I’m not good to talk to? Is that what you’re saying?”

Yes it is! You’re vapid and not interested in anything besides my football games and the sex. Whenever I try to say anything of substance, you blow me off, and I don’t mean with your mouth.

“Not at all,” I said. “I just like having different perspectives.”

“Fine,” she said. “Anyway, class is starting soon. Love you!”

With that, she returned to being her bubbly self, but not before giving me a kiss. As soon as she left, I rubbed her kiss from my mouth. I immediately started texting Alisha to see what she was doing. I waited a good while for a text back, but she never replied.

    Alisha

I finished my classes and saw that Evan texted me a few times. But I hesitated on replying. After what happened between me and Alisha, of course I’d be a bit nervous to send him a reply. That bitch pretty much threatened to hurt me, even though we were just friends!

I returned to my dorm, where Julie sat on the bed, her makeup running from what appeared to be crying. “What’s wrong?” I asked her, my eyes looking at her while my pencil pressed on the worksheet I was assigned to finish.

“It’s no fair!” she said. “My boyfriend dumped me! Said I was too much of a burden.”

I didn’t quite know what to say. My problems were a lot different from hers, after all. I was dealing with a man who may or may not have feelings for me, and a crazy girlfriend who was mad because I dared befriend her love.

I gave her a hug and said if she needed to talk, I’d be there for her. Of course, a few hours later, she was texting another man and was chipper than ever. Oh, if only I could be like her.

    Speaking of texting, I
