dropped my pen and turned to stare out at the large windows behind me. They were open and I could hear the distance sounds of chattering and children laughing. Sunshine poured into my backyard and my eyes widened as I saw a handful of pups cavorting over the grass. I blinked and then they were gone like winter mist. It must have been a trick of the light.
I turned back to the paperwork scattered across my desk and sighed at the realization I was behind as hell in everything. Since that night at the hotel with Seth I hadn’t been able to think of much else. I’d look at numbers and see the way he’d bite his lip and arch up into my touch. I’d listen as one of the other alphas relayed some information he wanted me to know and I’d hear the little omega’s whimpers he made when I thrust into him at that exact angle.
After I’d woken up alone in that hotel bed, the room empty and the only thing remaining of his presence the smell of our combined scent in the air and the imprint in the pillow beside me, I’d known that I had to leave everything we’d done in that room in the room as I left. I had to get back and prepare for the bonding that night but when the time came I couldn’t move from my house. I couldn’t get myself to walk over to Rose’s and tell her I’d chosen her as my mate. All I could think about was Seth, and how I wanted to drag him over to my house, tie him to my bed and not let him out until the next full moon.
The other alphas hadn’t said anything about me postponing the bonding when I’d met with them the next morning and I knew they weren’t blaming me. We all knew what needed to happen and a week’s delay wasn’t going to change what we had to do. As long as I didn’t delay it for another week, they would give me the reprieve.
I sighed. Tonight, tonight I would go to Rose and bond with her.
I stilled, my instincts on high alert even before the knock at the office door came. “Come in,” I called. I didn’t need to see him enter to know it was him. He’s come back to me. I felt my body tug towards the door, an insistent urge to go to him come over me, but I fought against it. I tried not to react even as my wolf panted at the sight and scent of him, but then I saw his paleness, the gaunt exhaustion on his face.
I jumped out of my chair and moved towards him. My skin tingled and heat flushed up my arm as I reached for him and guided him to one of the plush leather seats in front of my desk.
“Thanks,” he said softly as he sank down. I felt my body drink up the sound of his voice and the hesitant smile he gave me.
I leaned against my desk and surveyed him. The little omega didn’t look too well. Worry ate sharply at me as I ran my eyes over him. “Something’s wrong. You’ve lost a lot of weight and you’ve got no color in your face.”
He ducked his head and turned his face away, biting on his lip nervously.
I swallowed down a groan and shifted, willing my cock to stay soft. It was already half-hard at the sight of him, even if he did look like death warmed over.
“Tell me what’s wrong, Seth,” I urged gently.
He seemed to struggle with something in himself and I wanted to wrap him in my arms and rub my cheek against his hair, tell him it was okay, whatever it was. Was he here because the wolf he had feelings found out about our night together? Had he found out and condemned the omega? The thought had rage searing through me, and I heard a faint crack as my fingers curled crushingly into the edge of my desk. I forced myself to relax my grip as I watched his narrow shoulders straighten and he turned to face me determinedly.
    “I’m pregnant.”
Whatever I’d expected him to tell me, that sure as fuck wasn’t it. I felt shock reel through me as my jaw dropped and I stared at him in disbelief.
He titled his chin up stubbornly and didn’t look away.
It can’t be… I swept my eyes carefully down his thin frame and inhaled. My eyes widened as I noted the
