lotion of the same scent, then wrapped a towel around her and left the bathroom.
Her body was still warm, but a chill ran over her spine.  She glanced around the hotel room but it was empty.
"Santa?" Where did he go? Where could he go? Maybe he went to get some ice?
She glanced at the ice bucket but it was still on the dresser, unused.
Maybe he had bad phone reception in the room and went outside?
Why would he leave his cell right on the bedside table?
Noelle went to the bathroom and blow-dried her hair as she waited, hoping that he would return. Five minutes turned into ten, ten into twenty, and still no sign of Santa.
Returning back to the room, she observed the phone, the messy bed, and… Was there something black tangled into the bed sheets?
She walked over to it and found a black leather wallet. She opened and flipped through it, finding his driver's license, hospital entrance ID, and a few credit cards.
He could have left, but why would he leave his phone and wallet? Maybe something happened to him?
A chill of fear raced over her spine and she rushed to dress. A peek through the windows outside proved that fresh snow was falling and the little dress and hooker boots weren't going to keep her warm. She rushed outside and into the trunk of her car where she grabbed her bag.
Back in the hotel room, she changed into a pair of blue jeans, thick black sweater, and a pair of snow boots.
Now what to do about Santa?
Noelle could simply forget about him and go to Wisconsin.
No… She rejected that idea instantly. Santa had left behind some important things, so she was pretty certain he didn't intentionally ditch her. Something horrible had to happen.
    But what?
    Maybe…
    Maybe…
The image of the man in the gas station parking lot came flooding back. She remembered the hateful way the man stared at Santa. Could it have been that he found them and took Santa?
How could anyone take a man as big and buff as Santa? At gunpoint maybe?
Her gaze fell to the wallet. Once again, she flipped open the leather folds and surveyed the items.  When her fingers touched something papery, she pulled it out and unfolded the white sheet of ruled paper with the ripped spiral edges as though the paper came from a notebook.
What she saw was a child's handwritten note to Santa Claus.
    Dear Santa Claus,
My friends don't think you're real but I know you are. They think I'm too old to write you about what I want for Christmas, but you are the only one who can give me this gift. My daddy was in a car accident, and all I want is for him to be okay. Can I get that this Christmas?
The name, Samantha, was scribbled on the bottom of the letter.
Noelle's heart clenched and tears almost threatened to spill. She could only imagine the pain the girl was going through. Flipping the paper over, she didn’t spot any state or town written on it, and had no idea where the girl was from.
Why was Santa carrying this letter with him?
She had to find him. Had to see who this girl was and why he carried her letter.
Where could she begin her search when she really had nothing to go on?
The cell that lay on the bedside table came to mind and she lifted it. Working her finger through the contacts list, she found one name that promised to give her more info than anyone else.
    Mom.
Who knew better than the mother? She pressed the call contact button and put the phone to her ear.
After a few rings, a soft voice came over the phone. "Hello?"
    "Hi, Mrs. Claus."
There was silence for a moment. "Who are you? Why are you calling from Santa's phone?"
"I'm…" Who was she, really? His one night stand? The stranger he fucked? "I'm his friend. Um… Santa's missing."
"Missing? How can he be missing?"
"Well, I was…" She was what? Taking a shower after a great sexual encounter? "We were hanging out when I went to the bathroom. When I came back, he was gone, but he left his phone and wallet behind which makes me think he was taken."
    She took a deep breath,
