youâd ski with them. But maybe if you ski with Mitch, you can find a way to talk later? Finally, you say:
âI canât, I told the girls Iâd ski with themâsorry.â
âSure, Iâd love to! See you at the chairlift!â
Chapter 15
When youâre getting changed into your ski clothes with Molly and Sierra, you canât believe the amazing outfits they brought to ski in.
âWow, you guys are serious,â you say, looking them over when theyâre suited up.
âYou like it?â Molly says, spinning around in her fitted red-and-black snowsuit. âI think Sierraâs is way cooler,â she admits, pointing to Sierraâs fitted white suit with a big black belt.
âCome on, get ready and join us!â Sierra says, pulling a puffy white hat down over her dark, pixiecut hair. She looks adorable!
âI donât know, you guys, I was just going to rent a snowsuit. I donât think youâre going to want to be seen with me!â you laugh.
âWhy rent? I have an extra jacket that would fit you,â Sierra says, digging through her huge duffel bag. In a minute, she pulls out a funky silver jacket and tosses it to you. âTry it on!â
You slip into the jacket and look in the mirror. Itâs short and fitted, coming only to your waist, witha high collar that hugs your neck as you zip it up.
âHot!â Molly says. âYou
have to
wear it!â
You do look pretty goodâwho wouldnât in this thing? It probably cost a fortune! âThis is too nice to wear skiingâ¦,â you start to say to Sierra.
âPlease,â she says, âI have, like, five more at home.â
And Molly nods to you, mouthing the word ârichâ when Sierra canât see.
âSo what do I wear with it?â you ask, looking down at your jeans.
âThose look good,â Molly says. âBut you might get cold.â
âYou will
not
find any rental ski pants to match that jacket,â Sierra says, pointing out the obvious. âSo just wear your jeans. You look hot. And thatâs what matters!â
You know that you would be warmer wearing a snowsuit, but the jacket does look cool. And who knows, maybe youâll run into Mitchâor Zacâon the slopes. You think for a minute, thenâ¦
You decide to rent something warmer to wear.
You want to wear the jacket.
Chapter 16
You race down the hall to Mitchâs room, and knock on the door. A tall guy with buzz-cut short dark hair answers. âHi,â he says, smiling down at you. âDo I know you?â
âOh, Iâm a friend of Mitchâsâis he here?â you ask, out of breath.
âWho is it?â Mitch says, coming around the door. When he sees you, his face lights up and he grins. âHey, whatâs up?â
âI need, well, we need some help, in our room,â you start to explain. âThereâs this bed thingâ¦.â You feel yourself getting all tongue-tied again.
âA bed thing?â Mitchâs roommate says, laughing. âMaybe I can help!â
Mitch smiles. âIâve got it, Travis,â he says, then turns to you. âLead the way.â
Your face is so red at this point, you can hardly look at him as you walk back to your room. âItâs called a Murphy bed,â you say quietly. âItâs, like, in the wall.â
When you get to your room, the door is openâ and Heather and Carrie are sitting on the Murphy bed! âWe did it! There was a latch at the top that needed to be unhooked,â Carrie explains.
âHey, Mitch!â Heather says. âSo cool to see you!â
âWell, I guess my work here is done,â Mitch jokes, then he turns to you. âMy friend Travis and I are about to go snowboardingâdo you want to come with us?â
You look over at Heather and Carrie, who are busy pretending that they arenât listening to your conversation
