room, I can get some real sleep too.”
Salt was a little touched that she really seemed concerned for him. It was moments like those—when he was faced with the reality that some people really did care what happened to him for reasons other than needing him to work—that showed Salt he’d moved forward in life. Used to be he had to keep everyone at a distance, and that’d been fine, but now he was making friends. He liked it.
If he wanted a little more, well, he couldn’t dwell on that. Salt was relieved that Rocky ambled right on into her room. He went into his and sighed as he stretched. He was a bit stiff in places he wasn’t used to being stiff in. All in all, he was in great shape, but he wasn’t as flexible as he used to be, and there were certain positions involved in sex that one didn’t find themselves in at any other times.
Salt took off his hat and set it on the dresser. He unbuttoned his shirt and ran one hand over his chest. It sent tingles of arousal through him, especially when he imagined it being Andy’s hand. He wondered if he’d ever hear from Andy again, and whether the man regretted not getting to fuck him.
Jesus, he was getting melancholy in his old age.
    No, I’m fucking lonely.
That realisation eradicated any arousal he’d been feeling. He thought of Carlos, Will and Troy, so content and loving in their threesome, and of Drake and Ian, a newly minted couple who seemed well-suited as could be. Gay men could live happily ever after, if those men were anything to judge by. Salt hadn’t really thought it possible before, at least not for a cowboy.
He wanted that for himself, wanted it badly as he stood almost naked in his room in the middle of the night, smelling Andy’s scent on his skin. Maybe it was melancholy, maybe it was exhaustion, but Salt wished he’d been able to stay in that motel room and sleep with Andy. Wake up the next day and take time exploring each other. Shower together, laughing, teasing, touching. Breakfast together, chatting and planning their day or maybe even their week.
Salt shook himself and firmly locked down his little fantasies. He was being a ridiculous old fool.
But even so, he still dreamt of things he’d only just started believing in.

Breakfast entailed a lot of ribbing from the crew, but Salt didn’t really mind. Also, it kept Rocky from being able to grill him, though he had no illusions that she’d be held off for long. He hadn’t stepped off the porch into the early morning sunlight before Rocky was at his side poking him in the ribs.
“Come on, dish. I want to know if I need to smack that sales boy before he shows up later.”
Salt just about stumbled down the porch steps. “What? Why would he show up later?”
Rocky snorted and snickered as he flailed his arms trying to keep from plopping down on his butt as his boot heel slipped on the last step. “Because I gave Carlos his card, told him about what he was selling, and that you were off fucking the guy,” Rocky informed him.
“What?” Salt squeaked spinning around to glare at her. He didn’t ever want such an overshare of gossip going on. “You didn’t tell him that last part!”
Rocky had a good, long laugh at him, one of those bend-at-the-waist-and-make-your-eyes-water kind of laughs. By the time she could gasp out a ‘no’, Salt was getting irritated. She took a few breaths and swiped at her eyes. “Chill out, Salt. I wouldn’t tell him about the fucking part, that’s your business. It’s not like everyone here doesn’t know what you were off doing. Not a one of us thought you were playing dominoes with Andy. Sheesh. You can be such a prude.” Rocky cackled at him then went on. “I did tell Carlos the rest, though, and he was actually interested. Said Will had been harping on him about organic this and non-GMO that, so he’d give your guy a call in the morning, see if he’d come out today.”
“He’s not my guy,” Salt muttered, but he sure was
