Salt said, and it so echoed the direction Andy’s own thoughts were going in that Andy was startled. He thought he hid it well.
“Yeah? Me neither. Life’s been busy, you know?” Andy hated how shallow that made him sound. There was more to it than that, but he didn’t go spilling his guts to everyone. Anyone, really.
“Just wasn’t possible for me.” Salt wiggled like he was trying to get comfortable on the bed. “Being a gay cowboy? Yeah, they’ve made movies about that shit. Don’t get a happy ending that way.”
“But the Mossy Glenn hires family.” Andy had heard that. It couldn’t just be gossip.
“Yup, they sure do, and let me tell you, that’s got its own hardships.” Salt scooted and sat with his back against the headboard. “You have no idea how much teasing I took for going out to get laid tonight. Of course, most of them thought it was a date.” Salt shook his head. “I work with a bunch of romantic fools.”
Andy had to chuckle at the image he had of Salt being ribbed by his friends. “Ah well, I guess they just want you happy. You happy?”
“Very.” Salt’s stomach growled and he patted it. “Hungry, too.”
Andy stood up and stretched, liking the way Salt’s gaze went over him like a warm caress. “Yeah, pizza.”
When the food arrived, they sat on the bed eating, drinking beer and watching crappy television shows. Somehow, Andy found himself enjoying the company, laughing with Salt, trading stories about their stupid youth tricks and bad hookups.
He couldn’t figure out how it happened, but the last thing he remembered was leaning against Salt and thinking it’d been a good evening, one of the best he’d ever had.

Chapter Four
As much as he hated to, Salt settled for letting Andy sleep instead of waking him up for a goodbye. He wished that Andy had fucked him, but honestly, the night had been so relaxing, and the company so good, that Salt was more than satisfied with what had happened between them. It’d been unique for him, and he’d liked the companionship.
Reminded him of hanging with the guys and gals at the ranch, except he’d felt the embers of desire all the time he’d been there with Andy. Nothing pressing, just the attraction twanging between them.
Andy was sprawled out on the bed, snoring softly, his mouth open and looking like he just needed to be loved on. Salt didn’t want to risk being late to work in the morning, and besides, Andy hadn’t asked him to sleep over. Salt wasn’t sure what the rules were in situations like the one he was in. Leaving seemed the wisest choice.
It also seemed kind of rude. Salt spotted the little notepad and pen on the table. At least they’d dozed off with the lamp on so he could see. It’d sure made getting dressed easier. He jotted down a quick note about not wanting to wake Andy, and needing to leave. Before he could stop himself, he added that he was hoping Andy still wanted to see him ride.
Salt left it at that. He put his hat on and left the room, hanging the Do Not Disturb sign up on the outside knob. The rumble of the truck engine shouldn’t wake Andy up, Salt figured. There’d been plenty of coming and going from people and their vehicles all night. Salt got in his truck and started up. He buckled his seat belt and checked behind him before backing out.
It was a little after one in the morning when he pulled up to the bunkhouse. While everyone was sleeping, he had no hope of getting inside and to his room unheard. As nosy as the crew was, someone would be sleeping with one eye open, and sure enough, that one person was Rocky. She didn’t even try to hide it, sitting up on the couch, snuffling and opening her eyes when he shut the front door.
“Don’t start,” he warned when she opened her mouth. “I’m tired, and want to get to bed. You can grill me after I get some sleep.”
“‘Kay,” she agreed easily, getting up off the couch. “Now that I know you ain’t dead in some skeezy motel
