and she’d just spun his world on its axis once again.
“You are…” Schultz was at a loss of words and he shook his head in incredulity. It wasn’t that he didn’t know that Julia loved him, but the fact that she’d never said the words. Neither had he, which was why he’d planned on such an extravagant proposal. She’d just blown that out of the water, as well as declaring that she thought she’d been protecting him from political embarrassment. It was one thing to have a friend get his six in the heat of battle, but it was another thing entirely to have a woman try and protect his entire life’s work. “Come here.”
Schultz walked up to Julia, placing his hands on her hips and backing her up until her heart-shaped ass hit the desk. He leaned down and captured her pink lips before she could say anything else. He was having their problem taken care of using every resource that he could marshal and he wouldn’t apologize for that. It wouldn’t hurt his career because he’d accessed people through colleagues that owed him—personally, loyal members of his very own network within the services. Being in his position offered him doors that others couldn’t go through and while he didn’t often take advantage of that, he would certainly compensate those individuals through his personal patronage. It was a win-win for everyone involved. Right now he needed to show Julia what words alone couldn’t.
“We’re done arguing,” Schultz murmured against her pliant mouth, which tasted of cinnamon. She had a penchant for hard candies and the flavor almost always remained on her tongue. “We’re going to spend the rest of the afternoon breaking in this desk like we’ve been wanting to.”

Chapter Four
    “SCHULTZ, WE CAN’T—”
    “Yes, we can.”
Schultz undid her blouse one button at a time as he continued to brush his lips against her neck. She had a sensitive spot in the curve of her shoulder that always managed to instigate a shiver of arousal and he’d immediately found it. She inhaled sharply, needing to keep herself composed. He pulled up on the satiny fabric, releasing it from her white slacks and making her thoughts scatter.
“We need to figure out who’s behind this,” Julia whispered, resting her forehead on his shoulder. Schultz’s touch never failed to instantly make her want to forget about everything else but them. She hadn’t meant to blurt out that she’d loved him, wanting to wait a little longer for a special time and place. She certainly hadn’t expected this reaction either, especially when they had more pressing issues to deal with. “He or she could ruin our careers and—”
“You just said that you love me.” Schultz slowly pulled away, taking the time to brush a strand of hair away from her forehead. His brown eyes deepened in tenderness and made her want to ignore everything outside of his apartment. “With that comes the trust I was talking about earlier. I understand the rationalism of why you went to Jon in the beginning, but now it’s time that you start trusting me .”
Butterflies were released and this time they were the light playful ones. Julia reached back and placed her palms on Schultz’s desk when he unfastened her slacks and deliberately took his time pulling them down to her ankles. She was still wearing her black heels and he somehow managed to remove her pants while keeping them strapped around her ankles. By the time he stood, she was wearing nothing but her white lace bra and matching French-cut underwear.
“I have better use for those panties,” Schultz promised with a wicked gleam in his eye. Julia did trust him and she would have to convey that later…much later. Right now she was watching him take off her underwear and hold up the satin piece of clothing. “Hands through the leg openings.”
Julia unquestionably loved when Schultz took charge of their lovemaking and now was no exception. She had a high-stress job and coming home to a
