never hurt her, but now Colt had come to the island she knew she wouldn’t touch another man again.
‘ Hey, Hope, how’s it going?’ He smiled at her as he passed her usual diet coke. ‘You and Colt make it official yet?’
‘ Fuck off, Alex.’ Hope felt the corners of her mouth lift slightly, but she didn’t want Alex to know he hadn’t really pissed her off.
‘ Such a lady, Hope. Always did like that about you.’ He leant over and kissed her cheek.
‘ How come you’re working the bar and not driving the boat today?’ she asked.
‘ With Greg gone and Mindy still missing, I thought I would help out. Nothing much happening today. What about you? Anything exciting planned today?’ He started to wipe the bar with the cloth in his hand.
‘ God, I hated that bitch.’ She really did hate Mindy. She had tried to break Logan and Callie up a few months back and then sided with Greg after he betrayed the pack. ‘Nothing happening for me,’ she continued. ‘I’m going home to watch a tear-jerker and fall asleep on my sofa and not think about anyone in particular.’
‘ I don’t mind if you want to think of me…’ He gave her a wink and patted her hand.
‘ Thanks, Alex, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t you I had in mind. Sometimes, I wish we were mated, but then again you would be missing out on all those dates you like to go on with all those pretty ladies.’ She smiled and took a sip of her cold drink.
‘ Well, what can I say? I’m a likeable guy.’ Hope smiled at him and hoped he found his mate soon. He was such a great guy and deserved the best. She finished the rest of her coke and stood up to go.
‘ See you later, Alex.’ She waved at him and wandered home slowly. Even though she wanted time to herself, her house sure was lonely what with Callie, and now Maggie, living with their mates.
After making herself some cheese on toast , Hope settled on the sofa in her jeans and the baggy jumper she had borrowed from Brandon. She had never managed to give it back because it was just too comfy; plus, he had never really asked for it back so, in her eyes, that made it hers. She had chosen her film and settled back with a box of tissues because she knew it was going to make her cry and, sure enough, halfway through the film, she was sobbing into her third tissue. God, she loved this film – the cute little puppy that turned into the worst pet ever, but still its owners loved him. Once the credits rolled, she hit the off switch but sat there for a few moments, still letting her tears fall.
‘ Who the hell has upset you?’ The deep, rich voice echoed through the room and made her scream.
‘ Jesus fucking Christ!’ She jumped up from the sofa and spun round to see Colt standing in the doorway. ‘What the hell are you doing here? I didn’t invite you in.’ Her hands were clenching at her chest as her heart thumped from the shock.
‘ I want to know who has upset you.’ His teeth were clenched and his hands were curled into tight fists, ready for a fight.
‘ No one, you idiot. I was just watching a sad film. But you still didn’t answer my question. What the hell are you doing in my house?’ She stood still as he started walking towards her. He looked like a man who was stalking his prey. Once he reached her, he raised his hands to her face and used his thumbs to wipe away the remaining tears.
‘ The great Princess was upset by a film?’ He frowned down at her. ‘I don’t like seeing you cry. Makes me want to rip apart the person who made you sad.’ One of his hands swept behind her head as he wrapped her hair in his fist, pulling her head back so she was looking at him; the other hand remained on her face, cupping her cheek. ‘You are so beautiful.’
‘ Colt…’ was all Hope could whisper before he crashed his lips against hers, his fist tightening in her hair, the biting pain making her knees feel weak. She had frozen to the spot, waiting for her brain to restart and tell
