driveway, a limo pulled up along the curb. She stared as the driver got out and walked around to open the door. George looked stunning in a black tuxedo.
“Are you ready?” He said as he was walking up the sidewalk.
“Yes, I am. Just give me a second to get my things.” She smiled.
“When did you buy this house?” George asked
“Right after I got home from vacation. I needed a change” She explained.
“I see.” George said. “ You look amazing. Shall we?”
“Of course.” Sam said as they walked out of the door.
“So are you going to tell me where we are going?” Sam asked.
“No. You will know where you are when you get there.” George said. “I know you don’t like surprises but this is going to be worth it. I promise.”
They got into the limo and the driver started driving away. Sam was amazed at the lengths that George had gone to impress her. It was unlike the George Ames she remembered. They turned up a tree lined road. After what seemed like forever, they came to a guard post that was positioned in front of a large gate. It reminded her of a manner or castle in a movie. The limo pulled through so that the guard could talk to George.
“I’m sorry sir but there are no limos allowed here today, as per the boss’s orders.” The guard said to the cracked window. The guard was a small, lanky man. He was bald and wore a uniform that was 2 sizes too big for him.
“I am sure you will find that there is an exception for me.” George said as he rolled his window all the way down.
“Oh!” The guard was taken aback. “Of course sir.” The guard said as he hit a button that made the gate swing open.
The limo pulled through the gate and started up the drive. It was a winding drive with beautiful flowers lining the way. To the right was a large garden. To the left was a wall of vines. She tried to look ahead and see what was coming but she couldn’t see through the privacy shield.
“You have been quiet the whole way here.” George said calmly.
“Sorry, I have been admiring the scenery.” Sam said quickly.
The car came to a stop in front of what looked like a castle. The driver came around the car and opened the door. He held it open for them as they got out. Sam took a second to look around. She had never seen anything like it. They were parked under a huge glass and stone archway. The columns had to be 2 stories high. They were made of riveted glass. There was a stone portrait on the ground beneath her feet. The top of the archway was made of tinted glass. It seemed to make the stars look bigger.
“Welcome back Mr. Ames.” The concierge chimed. “The ballroom is all ready for you.”
“Thank you Roger.” George said to the man. “Please take Miss Lee to the doorway. I will meet you there momentarily.” He turned to Sam and said “I have to take care of something really quick. Please follow Roger.” He then turned and went inside.
“This way, Miss.” Roger said offering his arm.
Sam took the man’s arm and walked inside through the huge wooden doors. She looked around the lobby. The colors were rich, warm purples and reds. It made her feel as though she was royal. The check- in desk was very elegant in mahogany wood. She was steered down a hallway to her left. They walked about twenty feet and then came to a halt in front of another set of big wooden doors.
“Please wait here, Miss.” Rodger said releasing her arm and walking back toward the main door.
She didn’t have to wait long before George appeared. He had in his hand a bouquet of tiger and calla lilies. Her favorite flowers.
“They are so beautiful!” She said smiling.
“Are you ready Miss?” George smiled.
“As ready as I will ever be.” Sam said. She was starting to feel herself get nervous again.
“Close your eyes.” George whispered in her ear and she did.
George cleared his throat as the doors in front of them opened. George led her into the room. He guided her down a set of steps and into
