pleasure. Before joining DEO-MAP and coming up here to the site, she’d have been fighting a panic attack if five men had appeared in her bedroom.
Instead, she’d behaved like an absolute slut.
A totally well-satisfied slut. Damn. What a night. Chuckling, she reached for the towel and wiped the water and conditioner out of her eyes.
Blinked. And shrieked. She almost slipped on the slick tile, but a strong hand steadied her. Strong arms kept her safe.
â€œTor! Good lord, man.” She flattened her palm against her chest and felt her heart pounding. “You scared me to death. Where did you come from?”
Leaning against the tile wall of the shower, he merely grinned and glanced up. She rolled her eyes, but her heart was still thudding like crazy and she had to take a couple of deep, steady breaths before it started to slow down.
She reached out and touched his chest, needing to stroke that dark, chocolaty skin to prove he was really here. Naked. In her shower. “How can you be here now? Isn’t your shift over?”
He sighed, leaned close, and brushed the hair back from her eyes as the water beat against both of them. “I missed you. I have a little more time before I must return, but I wanted a moment alone with you.” He cocked his head to one side, studying her. “I had to share you last night.”
She grinned. “You did, and I thank you for your generosity.”
His laughter was deep and rumbled up out of his chest. “You’re more than welcome. Aza and Jesat couldn’t stop talking about their night with you, and now I have to listen to the other four.” He sighed as if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders. “All they can talk of is the rescue, not because we will finally be free, but only so they can come back to you.”
His words drifted over her like a gentle caress. “That’s actually very sweet. I figured they only came back last night to strengthen the visuals for their human forms. I didn’t really think of how they felt about, well . . .” She shrugged. It still wasn’t easy, this standing here naked with a man she hardly knew. Yet he knew her more intimately than any other man she’d ever known, including her ex-husband.
Tor rested his palms on her shoulders. “They . . . we, all feel more than you realize when we are with you. Our lives have been barren for so long.” He leaned close and kissed her. The smooth glide of his full lips over hers left her breathless. Needy.
Slowly he broke the kiss. “I must return, but I had to speak with you, Kiera Pearce. I have to tell you that even if this plan of yours does not succeed, if none of us or only a few of us are saved, I will never forget you. I will treasure the time we have spent together as the most memorable hours of my life.”
He leaned close and kissed her again, and there was so much feeling behind his kiss, such a sweet desire to claim her without any hint of trying to subdue her. Tears gathered behind her lashes. She felt a tightening in her chest, in her throat.
He ended the kiss and rested his forehead against hers. “I’ve lived a very long life, Kiera. This time with you has been but a tiny fraction of all my years, and yet the hours spent with you in my arms mean more to me than anything. I’ve known you such a short time, but don’t ever doubt my feelings for you. I’ve been inside your heart and mind, and you are pure and good.”
She stared at him, her heart and mind spinning in separate directions, yet both reached the same place at once, still confused, but certain that something existed between her and this man from another world. “I wish I understood this better, Tor. My feelings for you are so intense they’re a little scary. You matter to me in a way no one has before.”
Her life would never be the same, no matter what the outcome of Mac Dugan’s plan. Her emotions were so
