growled low in his chest and slammed
my ass into the wall with the force of his final thrust. He held his cock deep
inside the clasping, quivering walls of my vagina and poured himself into me,
hot thick spurts that kept coming, despite the fact that he’d just come down my
throat.
He leaned his forehead against the wall
beside my face and heaved in a deep breath. “You okay?”
    “Will be,” I muttered. “Squished.”
“Sorry.” He shifted his weight off of me,
pulling out at the same time. Warm trickles of semen ran down my leg, mixing
with the now-cool water of the shower. His chocolate brown eyes met mine in a
look that managed to be so hot and so tender at the same time that I almost
cried at the sheer beauty of it.
As soon as we got our breath back, we
quickly rinsed ourselves, before the water turned to ice. Evan turned off the
taps and pulled back the shower curtain then handed me a towel. Just as he
wrapped one around himself, we both heard the blare of heavy metal music coming
from the bathroom counter. Evan must have left his cell phone there the night
before.
“Office,” he said when he picked it up. “I
started the coffeemaker before I got in the shower. Meet you in the kitchen in
five.”
I dropped a kiss on his shoulder then went
back into the bedroom to dress. By the time I combed out my hair, pulled on
jeans and a San Diego State sweatshirt from my backpack, and dug out a dry pair
of running shoes, Evan had finished his call, dressed, and was waiting for me
in the kitchen.
He sat at the table, barefoot, wearing an
unbuttoned denim shirt and a pair of baggy olive cargo pants when I emerged.
“So how much has Will told you about
Guardian?” He passed me a full mug of coffee and a box of doughnuts when I sat
across from him.
I took a sip and almost choked at the
strength of the brew. But I needed the caffeine hit, so I took another drink
before I answered. “I know you’re all aware of his psychic abilities and that
you let him use them. I know that Vaughn—who is either your brother or
cousin—was in the Marines with Will. They were close enough that when you
formed Guardian, you let him go in with you, even though he’s the only
non-relative among the partners.”
“Vaughn’s my brother. Younger by less than
a year. Will saved his life more than once. We all owe him big time. And he’s
more than pulled his weight at Guardian.”
I helped myself to a chocolate covered
doughnut and took a bite. Rich creamy filling exploded across my tongue. After
I’d swallowed, I raised one eyebrow. “What aren’t you telling me?”
He took a bite of his own sugar-covered
pastry and licked up a bit of red fruit filling. I remembered the feel of that
tongue on my skin and wriggled in my wooden chair. “I know about the
kidnapping, Hannah, and the accident. Will told me how you nearly died along
with that little boy.”
I shuddered at the memory. “I’d never been
so closely linked to a victim before. I think he might have been a bit psychic
himself. I tried telling the idiot FBI agent where they were, how to find him,
but the bastard just refused to believe me. I was on my way there on my own when
they killed him. The link was so tight, I blacked out and drove into a ditch.
I’ve been on administrative leave for the last three months, but Monday it’s
over. I came up here this weekend to decide whether to go back or find some new
way to make a living.”
He sighed and scrunched his eyes closed. “I
have a favour to ask you. But I’m not sure I should. Damn it, I can’t stand the
thought of putting you through something like that again, but that call that
just came in was a case.”
I looked out the window, noting absently
that the storm had completely passed. The bright sunshine contrasted sharply
with the sudden pall in the room. My throat closed convulsively as dread crept
up my spine. I knew, quite certainly, that it was a kidnapping—that another
child was in danger. And Evan wasn’t sure I’d be able to handle it. That
