much attention—
if he could call the gangly youth a man—but Luna seemed oblivious to his attentions.
Either that or she was playing hard to get. The thought of her letting another man touch her was enough to make his blood boil. His grizzly rose up inside and he tried to hold the beast back.
Getting off his bike, he strode through the library doors and zeroed in on Luna.
The young man had his hand on her arm and Blaze was tempted to rip it off and beat the kid with it. The fact his beast was so protective and possessive of Luna only confused him more. He’d never had this sort of reaction to a female before and it made him wonder, if perhaps, he had found his true mate. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the ass?
To force a woman to mate with him, only to find out she was destined to be his all along? It made him feel a little less like an asshole about the situation.
He stepped up behind Luna and glared at the kid until he stammered something
and ran off. Luna turned to face him, her brow puckered in confusion until she saw him standing there. He was sort of hard to miss, being six foot four. Blaze smiled, but he saw the fire light up her eyes and knew she’d come to the realization he’d chased off her would-be suitor.
“That patron needed my help and you sent him scurrying off,” she accused,
hands on hips. “If you’re going to interfere with my job, you can’t be here.”
He looked around and spotted two workers behind the check-out counter. “Why
can’t they help him? They look old enough that he won’t try getting into their pants while browsing the section on whales.”
“He wanted help with a botany paper.”
“Uh-huh. What he wanted help with was his zipper. You may know books,
sweetheart, but I know men. And regardless of his age, he wanted to fuck you in a secluded corner of the library.”
Her cheeks flushed and she looked around before shushing him. “Someone is
    going to hear you!”
    Blaze shrugged.
“What are you doing here? We agreed you’d pick me up at closing time, and that isn’t for another two hours. I can’t have you lurking in the shadows scaring my library patrons.”
“Oh, honey, I don’t lurk. And I definitely won’t be sitting in the shadows. I plan to pull up a chair at your desk and bask in the glow of your company.”
    She glared at him.
“Or I could read a book.”
“I’m scared to ask what you enjoy reading. Murder and mayhem?”
    “I like mysteries and thrillers.”
She shrugged. “Same difference. Fine. The mystery books have an old-fashioned
detective icon on the spine. It’s a blue sticker. Browse to your heart’s content, but don’t think for one minute you’re sitting with me. You can claim one of the comfy chairs by the window. I mean it, Blaze. Keep out of my way or this entire deal is off.”
He growled at the threat but heeded her words. He had to pick his battles wisely until she was his in every way. Blaze took his time finding a book and then approached Luna once more. She narrowed her eyes and her cheeks puffed out in annoyance.
“I don’t have a library card,” he confessed.
Her gaze softened and she gave him a slight smile. “Give me your driver’s
license and I’ll set one up for you. We usually ask for a second proof of address, like a utility bill, but all things considered, I guess I can let that slide this time.”
He pulled out his wallet and handed his license to her. It didn’t take her long to put the information into the system and hand his license back, along with a new library card. He tucked both into his wallet and returned it to his back pocket. Still he hesitated.
She watched him, waiting for him to say or do something, but the proverbial cat had his tongue.
“You check out books over there,” she said, pointing across the room.
He nodded, grabbed his book, and went to the check-out. Once he was set, he
found one of those chairs she’d talked about and situated himself where he could watch over
