Lexi.
âHello!â called a Moss Mouse. âI loved your loop-the-loops!â He tried a clumsy loop of his own before flying off.
âMmmarvelous!â droned a furry bee. âBbbbessst race evvvvverr!â Then she buzzed away, searching for a flower.
âTheyâre not laughing at me!â Lexi said, looking very surprised.
âWhy would they laugh?â Bella said with a smile. She saw a patch of grass between the heather plants. âLetâs go and sit over there so you can eat some of your prize honey.â
âYou have to have some, too,â Lexi said. âIf it wasnât for you, Iâd never have been brave enough to race.â
They flew down and were just dipping into the acorn when a very small ladybug peeped at them through the heather stalks.
He looked at Lexi shyly. âHello, Lexi. Youâre my hero,â he mumbled, then darted away.
Lexi stared after him. Then she looked at Bella, puzzled. âWhy would he say that Iâm his hero?â
âBecause you won the race for the ladybug team,â Bella said. âAnd it wasnât just because youâre so good at flying.â
âWhat do you mean?â Lexi asked.
Bella licked a drop of delicious honey from her paw. âWell, if you werenât One-Spot Lexi, Ladybug Three would never have known who to pass the baton to.â
Lexi looked thoughtful. Then her eyes began to shine. âYou mean ⦠it was a good thing that I have only one spot?â
Bella nodded. A smile spread slowly across Lexiâs face, and she zoomed up into the air in a happy loop-the-loop. âMaybe being different isnât so bad after all,â she called down to Bella. âWheeeeeee!â
There was a shimmer of silver wings above the heather, and Carla the Cobweb Kitten fluttered down to join them.
âHello, Bella! Iâve been looking for you everywhere,â she said. âDid you see the Obstacle Relay Race? It was amazing!â
âYes,â Bella said proudly. She nodded at Lexi. âMy new friend here just won it.â
âOh, wow!â Carla looked at Lexi with admiration. âYou were brilliant. I wish I could do loop-the-loops like you.â
âI can teach you if you like,â Lexi said shyly.
âOoh, really?â Carla fluttered her silver wings excitedly. âI would love that!â
Carla turned back to Bella. âAre you still trying to find out where spots come from?â
Bella looked at Lexi.
Lexi smiled and shook her head. She was happy just the way she was.
âNot anymore,â Bella said, winking at Lexi. âNo need for more spots here!â

The sun was starting to hide his face behind the trees of Misty Wood, and the sky was turning golden pink. The warm spring day was coming to an end. It was nearly time to go home.
âThank you, Bella,â said Lexi. âYour songs have really helped me today.â
âYouâre welcome,â Bella said. âIn factâ¦â
Bella began hopping around Lexi and Carla as she started singing another song.
Making friends with you
Has been the best thing by far.
