about and I’m not quite sure how to start this off,” I
said, nervously. “I know that you really love this community, even though some
of the ways here are backwards and it doesn’t seem like much fun to outsiders.”
I was watching her work, trying to gauge her reaction to my words. “And I also
know that your upcoming marriage and starting your family is something that
you’re most excited about.”
Leah turned to look at me then,
with a puzzled look on her face. “Is there something that you want me to know
Lorin?” Leah screwed the lead on her last canning jar and turned to give me her
full attention.
“Well, I was just thinking that
if you knew more about the – err – marriage bed and what to expect that you
might enjoy yourself more and have a happier marriage.” There I said it.
Leah looked even more puzzled. “I
don’t understand,” she exclaimed. “How can I know about the marriage bed and
what to expect before we’ve even exchanged vows?” Just then, she realized where
this was leading and her eyes gave away her alarm. “What are you saying?”
Leah was starting to stammer now.
“Are you suggesting that Jacob and I begin to experience the affection of each
other’s bodies before we’re married?”
I had to put my head down so that
she couldn’t see the grin that I had on my face. “No, that’s not what I’m
suggesting at all. I only thought that if I could show you how to pleasure
yourself and be a little more comfortable with your own body then you would be
more comfortable with him.” I looked at her to see if I had gained a reaction.
Leah was looking down shaking her
head. “How can this be? How can I consider pleasuring myself? Scripture says
that a woman’s body is for the pleasure of her husband.”
I could see that this wasn’t
going to be as easy as I thought it was. “Leah, think of it this way. If your
body is for the pleasure of your husband, then at least you’ll feel more
comfortable offering him your body if you’re more acquainted with it yourself.
Does that make sense?”
    “I suppose it does. I just don’t
know what you’re talking about and how I can become more comfortable with my body,”
Leah stated.
“I know you don’t understand and
that’s why I’m going to show you,” I began. “That’s why I’m here. I’ll do
whatever it takes to make this summer outreach project successful and that
means making your community stronger and your family stronger. Right now, I’m
going to show you how to be more relaxed and more comfortable with your own
body so that you can pleasure your husband when the time comes.” I studied
Leah’s face for her reaction. I could tell that she still didn’t quite get the
gist of where this was headed and I realized that she was just going to have to
experience what I was talking about before she could truly understand.
“Just think of me as your teacher
or instructor,” I told her. “I’m going to tell you some things and show you
some things that might ordinarily cause you to be embarrassed, but since we’re
in a classroom situation here you don’t need to be embarrassed. You can learn
the most and experience the most if you set your embarrassment aside.”
Leah had her entire body turned
towards me now. I moved to the wash basin and washed my hands thoroughly.
“Okay, so to start with,” I began nervously “there are certain areas on your
body that when touched will produce a physiological response.” Glancing back
over my shoulder I could tell that she didn’t have a clue what physiological
response meant.
“When your body responds in this
manner, it basically means that your mind isn’t even thinking about it but your
body is responding in a natural way to the sense of touch.” After finishing my
sentence I spread a towel on the wooden bench by the door. I unbuttoned my
jeans, pulling them down along with my panties after stepping out of my shoes.
When I turned around Leah was standing there
