are.”
Knowing his father had arranged this behind his back irritated him, but he forced those thoughts away. Alex had been given a job, and he would fulfill it. Thankfully, this would not be an unpleasant job, and he wouldn’t be out stalking someone in order to end their life. Though the idea of babysitting some young woman wasn’t exactly at the top of his list of things he enjoyed, especially when he couldn’t fuck her, he had a feeling this assignment was going to be a good one. “When do I start?”
“In a week. That should give you time enough to make a trip home and get what you need.”
He’d have to find time to visit with Dimitri, but he should be able to set things up for his absence. “Then I will see you in a week.”

Chapter Three

Jessica Venture slumped over the end of the bar after her busy shift, savoring a beer. Sighing in delight, she got off her aching feet, which throbbed to the beat of her heart. She’d waitressed back in Iowa at a busy family diner, especially on Sunday after church, but being a bartender in a popular bar in the heart of Dublin was a totally new experience, and not just because she was still learning the local dialect. Thankfully, she was a quick study, and everyone she worked with was at least passingly nice to her. She didn’t get along with a few of the younger bartenders but not to the point where it was an issue. More like a mutual distaste than actual anger. The vast majority of people she’d met through her job and her newfound family had been really cool and welcoming.
Her family had deeply rooted history in this area, and her return to the city of her mother’s birth had been celebrated. Evidently she was the last descendant of a long line of some pretty amazing people. Her Uncle Peter and Aunt Mary couldn’t have children, so there’d been some hints she needed to settle down and have some kids so the Cleary line could continue. She wasn’t offended, no one meant any harm when they said it, and she chose to find it funny instead of getting upset.
Ireland didn’t feel like home yet, but there was no denying she’d felt a certain resonance in her soul the first time she drove to Dublin from the airport with her aunt and uncle. The whole place had a different vibe from anywhere she’d been in America, and it had taken her a bit to get used to it. Her aunt had really helped a lot in getting her familiar with the city and Ireland in general. They’d hit it off right away and had become good friends.
This was Jessica’s third week on the job, and she’d finally gotten a handle on how to work as quickly as possible to keep up with high demand and keep her head above water. Unfortunately, she kept screwing up tonight because of a certain irritating man who’d thrown a wrench in her ability to focus on the task at hand. He distracted her to the point that she forgot where she was, and instead of making drinks, she thought about how she longed to touch his lips surrounded by his goatee and see if the rough hair made the skin feel softer by contrast. With his deep gray eyes and classic good looks, he’d robbed her of her sanity with a glance. Usually, she could ignore guys hitting on her or trying to pick her up, but this man’s intense gaze affected her like a physical touch. And his accented voice… Her nipples tightened at the memory of the way he said her name. It wasn’t the traditional Jessica. No, he turned her name into something exotic that sounded like Jez-E-kah. Now her pussy tingled as well, and she cursed her body, which obviously didn’t know lusting after Alex was a bad idea.
Yep, despite the fact that he was older and in an entirely different league, they had serious chemistry between them.
Unfortunately, he was the kind of guy Jessica would never date.
When she’d asked about the sexy-as-sin man with the thick black hair and piercing gray eyes, the women she worked with had gone right the fuck off about how big a player
