just that good,” he brags, never looking away from his phone as he types something.
I wonder if I could get up and leave without him noticing.
He grabs the last piece of bread out of the basket with his free hand and begins to sop up the sauce that has been left behind or dripped off of his fork.
I have to admit he’s good at multitasking… Me, not so much. I can’t even focus on him eating and talking at the same time. What is it that he does again? Judging by his attire, his cockiness, and his I, I, I’s—I am willing to bet… Lawyer.
“Wow, you’re fantastic,” I gush, reaching for my wine. My sarcasm is lost, however, since I’m awarded with his best attempt at a sexy smile while chewing; his eyes for the first time tonight leave his phone and meet mine.
He’s actually not a bad looking guy. I was trying to avoid too much eye contact with him when he started to brag… I didn’t want him to get the wrong idea and think I find it sexy when a man brags nonstop about everything he has ever done. If it’s worked into the conversation, I find it interesting; when it’s laid out in front of me like a laundry list, I don’t.
Letting my eyes casually roam over him I begin to take him in. He has great hair; dark black and messy like it’s itching for fingers to run through it. He clearly works out since his button-down shirt fits him well enough to show every indent his muscles make. His eyes are heart stopping blue, and he has that suggestive smile that would make most women—naïve women—drop their panties before the appetizers.
    Oh my God…
    She didn’t…
    She wouldn’t…
I’m going to kill that Lexi!
Choking on my wine, I reach for my napkin.
    “Are you okay?” he asks.
“Oh yes, of course—I…” I try to think of an excuse to get out of here when I notice he’s looking over my shoulder into the mirror behind me.
Yup, he is actually checking himself out.
I am on a date with Simon’s doppelganger, and it’s all Lexi’s fault! I didn’t think this could get any worse, but clearly I’m mistaken. First, he orders for me. I’m sure for some women it’s cute and romantic… but if you don’t know me, don’t assume you know what I’m going to eat. Anyhow, it was a huge heavy pasta dish that I would never eat on a date. A night at home in my pajamas, maybe… a date… never! Then, when I spoke up in my soft spoken womanly tone he raised his hand to my face to silence me.
    You dick!
If you’re thinking I’m jumping the gun on the nickname, hang on. After I finished eating, I slid my plate away, and he began to scoop the food from my plate onto his. This is three times today people have eaten my food. But at least the first two knew me.
Now do you see it? Seriously, what a dick! He just met me. What if I have some kind of… I don’t know, something that he could get. That’s it, I’m never dating again. This is a world I want no part of.
I watch in astonishment when he raises his hand to snap his fingers at the wait staff before gesturing to his glass.
Who does that? Okay so now are we in agreement? Dick… right? I mean not even Simon would have pulled this crap with me… and he is a nightmare to be around.
His phone begins to ring just as I’m about to excuse myself from the table but he holds the “just a second finger up at me”. I haven’t had to do this in years, but I am two deep breaths away from breaking that damn finger off and ramming it down his throat.
But, no, I’m in control… I am in control. Dammit I’m doing it again. Years of hard work beginning to deteriorate right before my eyes.
I hope Lexi is having a good time with her boyfriend at our apartment while I’m stuck here with this sorry excuse for a Simon. I think I would actually take Simon over this man, and I didn’t think I would ever say that. Damn her. That’s it, next time I’m licking the fork. Why couldn’t she go out for a night on the town… or at least go to his hotel
