played.â
âNo. I donât get down like that,â I said.
âDonât punk out, Maya,â Kennedi said. I know she was teasing me because she of all people knew that wasnât about to happen.
âThe only way out is if someone takes your turn,â Carson said.
Suddenly one of the quiet girls who had been sitting off to the side said, âIâll take her turn.â Before anyone knew it, she had pulled her shirt up and flashed her breasts.
âEwww!âSheridanexclaimed.
âWow!â several of the guys said as they began whooping and hollering.
All I did was shake my head. Incredibly tacky.
âNow itâs my turn.â The girl pointed at Carson. âI dare youââshe pulled a dollar out of her pocketââto put this dollar inside her underwear.â She pointed to the redheaded girl next to her and I could tell by the way the girl was giggling they had planned this. How incredibly lame. But Carson was up to the challenge because he stepped up.
âMy pleasure,â he said, taking the dollar.
The crowd started shouting, âMake it rain,â as the redheaded girl stood and did a stripper dance. Carson put the dollar in his mouth, then leaned in and placed the money in her underwear. Yeah, he had just lost major cool points with me on that move.
Carson mustâve known I wasnât feeling that move because after he finished, he turned and said, âIâm gonna let my princess here take my turn.â He flashed an apologetic smile.
I decided not to trip and instead looked around our group until my eyes settled on Evian. âI dare you to hook up with a random guy,â I said to her.
âWhat?â Evian said.
âI didnât stutter,â I said. âI dare you to go meet up with a random guy.â
âIâm not doing that,â she said, her nose turned up. The shocked look on her face was actually funny, like she was too good for something like that.
âUn-unh, you gotta do it,â Carson said. âThose are the rules.â
âWhy you trying to break the rules, Evian? You scared?â I asked. I knew Evian was prissy. She had that old money and was always looking at stuff like it was beneath her.
âI know youâre not talking,â Evian snapped. âYou just passed on your dare.â
âThatâs the way the game is played.â I shrugged. âGet somebody to take your turn and you can pass, too.â
She looked around. No one said a word.
âNo takers, so you have to go,â I said, teasing her. âBut if you just scared and want to punk out the game, donât do it.â
âAnd just what am I supposed to do with this random guy? Where am I supposed to find him?â Evian asked, looking around.
I looked to Carson for help. He glanced around also, paused, then pointed up to a guy sitting up the hill at a bar.
âPrinceton, go get that guy in the red hat.â
Without asking another question, Princeton jumped up and ran up the hill.
We continued to tease Evian about bailing out of the game when she again said she didnât want to do it.
When the guy returned, he said, âWhatâs up? Someone wanted to see me?â
They couldnât have picked a plainer guy. He had on some plaid Bermuda shorts and a raggedy Coke T-shirt. There was absolutely nothing cute about his frazzled-looking hair and pimply face. He looked like a creepy old tourist.
Carson spoke up. âHey, man, weâre playing a little game here and Evianâisnât that your name?â
She didnât reply, but I said, âYes, thatâs her name.â
Carson turned back to the guy, a huge grin on his face. âEvian is going to take a little stroll with you,â he said.
The guy raised an eyebrow and said, âA stroll where?â
âWherever youâd like to go,â Carson replied.
The guy looked at Evian and dang near salivated at the
