dwarf’s tone wasn’t accusing, merely questioning.
“I was at the demon stronghold in Realm, bound to wait until my clan leader decided to hear my plea. For nine hours I was locked in place, waiting my turn and that was all the opportunity that the succubus needed. She attacked Elhara and I did not learn of it until last night.” He looked at the ruins of his suit. “She loved this suit.”
“Reytil knows your scent, as well as that of the female who attacked our girl. He acted out of frustration.”
The goblin had gained his composure. “How long have you been seeing my daughter, demon?”
“My name is Solar. I have been seeing your daughter for two weeks.” He dropped his glamour and let her relatives see the true him.
“Have you had sex?” The bold statement was definitely within goblin protocols.
He answered honestly. “No. I have tasted her as per incubi engagement protocols, but nothing beyond that.”
Her father sighed in relief. “Good, then a pregnancy is not likely. I was dreading explaining the possibility to Hannah.”
Solar quirked his lips. “There are no worries on that front.”
Gwelvar rapped his fist against the countertop. “Now, incubus, start at the beginning and tell us how you know our Elhara. Our wives are going to want to know and the more we are aware of, the better off you will be.”
A peculiar relief ran through him. It seemed that despite the initial attack, the men of the Warders were on his side. Now, he just had to run the gauntlet with the women and he could find out where his mate was.
Icy was a polite way to describe the trio of females facing him. Andrea, Hannah and Inora, the matriarchs of their little grouping, all were focussed on him with freezing glares.
As an incubus, this kind of female hostility was unusual, but each of these women had their wards up high and wide. Their mates were standing behind them and backing them up.
Inora scowled at him. “You are telling me that you, an incubus, are in love with our little Elhara?”
He nodded. “I am and I have been since the moment I first set eyes on her.”
Hannah, Elhara’s mother, asked, “Where was your third date?”
He grinned. “Mini golf. We putted around a pirate ship for five rounds, until the sun set and the lights came on.”
“You met her during daylight over the last two weeks?” Hannah fought a smile.
“I did. It seemed the best way to put her at ease.”
Inora leaned forward, “So, you were the reason she was humming and whistling?”
He darkened with embarrassment. “If you say it was so, I guess it was.”
“What are your intentions toward her? From what we could see before she left, her mind had been purged of any memory of you.” Andrea smiled.
“I intend to find her, to give her new memories to replace any lost forever and to start again.”
Hannah smiled and got to her feet, pulling him to his. “That was the right answer.”
She hugged him and he closed his eyes at the similarities of scent between Elhara and her mother. He missed her so much after just one day that if he concentrated, he could sense her off in the distance.
“She is in Realm. You can find her there.” Hannah patted his cheek. “When she found the rose petals in her hair, she sobbed like her soul was shattering. If you can fix that, I will be forever in your debt.”
A lump of emotion jammed in his throat. “There is no debt where true love walks. I have your permission to seek out your daughter?”
Reytil came up and stood with his arm around his wife. “You have our permission. Now, remind her who you are.”
Solar smiled and left the home in a puff of smoke. He cursed as he came out of his shift and walked through the halls of the underwater city.
To his shock, the Warder who had disappeared in a spray of seawater shot out of the wet lock and skidded across the floor on the legs that appeared the moment her tail dissipated. A familiar face shot out of the wet hatch a second later and
