still made no sense to Olivia how they had broken up. Why wasn’t he aware of her pregnancy?
“I have to be at the office soon,” the sheikh said to Olivia.
“You still haven’t told me how she left or why she left without telling you that she was pregnant. What had happened? If the two of you were as close as you say you were, then she should have told you,” Olivia replied.
“You will have to stay longer to find out.”
Olivia narrowed her gaze at him. “You cannot use that to make me stay,” she said to him. He smiled at her.
“It seems like this is the only thing I can do to spend some time with you. I have already missed out on twenty-three years,” he said. Olivia shrugged her shoulders.
“There is something else I wish to discuss with you before I head to work,” he added.
“What is it?” Olivia asked.
“Sheikh Boutros,” Sheikh Solomon said quietly.
Olivia started laughing.
“We do not need to discuss him. There will be no marriage.” She was not going to marry a man she barely knew. She thought it strange that he wanted to marry her.
“I went to see him this morning.”
“You told him that I will not marry him?”
“He wants to meet with you for lunch.”
Olivia looked at the sheikh with a blank expression. “Do I have to?” she asked.
“It may be better for you to refuse him yourself,” said Sheikh Solomon.
“This is very strange to me. He saw me for a few seconds. We did not even speak beyond greetings, and now he wants to marry me.”
“I understand. However, he is a good man and would make a great husband.”
Olivia raised her eyebrows. “He may be a good man but we are two different people from different worlds. I am not willing to even consider the idea,” she said. He was the most gorgeous man she had ever laid eyes on. However, it did not mean that she wanted to marry him.
“I understand your position. Perhaps you could just meet with him and tell him yourself,” said Sheikh Solomon gently.
Olivia did not see why she had to. However, it seemed as though the Solomon family really valued and respected Sheikh Boutros. She had seen the way they all reacted when they heard that he was on the phone.
“I guess it would be polite for me to do so,” said Olivia. “Besides, I am curious why he chose me.”
Sheikh Solomon nodded. “I will have a driver take you tomorrow,” he said with a smile. He looked as though he had won a battle. However, he had not. Olivia was just going to go there and refuse his offer and then carry on with her life.
Chapter 6
“I don’t even see why I should go,” Olivia complained as she rummaged through her suitcase.
“Just think of it as a lunch date with an attractive man,” said Daya. Olivia turned around and looked at Daya with a blank facial expression. “Well, you did say that he was good-looking, right?” Daya asked.
“He’s okay.”
“That isn’t how you described him.” Daya started laughing.
Olivia smiled and shook her head. She pulled out a short-sleeved, printed knee-length dress and quickly changed into it. She slipped into flat sandals. She untied her waves of hair and just finger combed it.
“Here I go,” Olivia said.
“Okay, have fun,” Daya replied.
Olivia headed out of her room and rushed downstairs. Just as Sheikh Solomon had said, there was a driver waiting for her. She got into the car. It was strange having a driver take her somewhere. She was used to taking the bus or riding her bike to places. This was new for her. She just sat in the backseat and looked out of the window.
As they drove into the city, Olivia’s breath was taken away by its beauty. She wished she could explore Lebanon. She had never had the opportunity to travel to different countries. It was a shame that the first time she had left America, she was looking for a father she did not know
