said then shivered. “And not as cold.”
Robert put his arm around him. “You okay?”
“Yeah, come on, let’s get moving, though. Warm up. I should have brought a coat, not just this hoodie.”
“Well, if we can’t figure it out soon we’ll give up. I don’t want you to get the bloody flu and be in bed for all the wrong reasons for the next week or two.”
Steve moulded himself against Robert. He adored it when he took care of him, made decisions for him. It gave him a sensation of being cherished…loved. It reminded him of how they used to be. And he was going to get a second chance at that, live it again. Happiness ballooned within him.
“Finders keepers and be sure to pick the lock,” Steve said, pulling the sleeves of his hoodie over his hands and clenching the material into his fists.
“Fuck, I have no idea,” Robert muttered.
“No. I don’t either.” Steve clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth. He was frustrated. They’d clearly got it right with the first clue Carrick had given them, so they were on the same wavelength. How hard could it be? “He must have dashed to the exhibition after Jugglers and left that note.”
    “Yeah, he’s keen.”
    “Or not.”
Robert huffed. “Yeah, maybe not. Maybe it’s his way of putting us off and not finding his hotel.” He paused. “Where does he usually stay, do you know?”
“In the city centre, I think. I heard him call a cab once, he just said to the castle.”
Robert nodded and steered Steve past the Assembly building. “Come on, let’s head this way, we can catch a taxi into town from the roundabout up there. Maybe we’ll have inspiration, and if not we’ll stay at mine.”
“Good plan,” Steve said. He’d been to Robert’s place since they’d split, plenty of times, but now, going as his lover again, the thought sent a delicious tingle of anticipation through his stomach and to his groin. He could never have predicted his evening would turn out like it had, but he wasn’t complaining. Plus, he was already one orgasm in.
They walked quickly and soon were at the road.
Steve looked around for a taxi but couldn’t see one. “What does he want us to find and keep?”
    “I dunno. Bloody riddles.”
“Keep, what is keep? What has a lock that you can pick?”
    “The prison?”
“Mmm, maybe. Do you think he’d leave us a note there?”
Robert shrugged and stuck his arm out as a taxi came into view. “You really want to head to that part of town?”
“Nah, let’s go to Revs for a drink while we think about it.”
    “Sounds like a plan.”
The taxi stopped and Robert held the door while Steve climbed into the warm interior.
    “Where to?” the driver asked.
    “Revs please, mate,” Robert said.
    “Where?”
“Revolutions. Just opposite the castle,” Robert said, slipping in next to Steve and having to bend his knees high.
“Ah, yeah. I got you.” The taxi pulled away, swung back round the crossing and headed for the city centre.
Steve rested back, glad of the heat. The castle? Cardiff Castle, an imposing building with a high-walled front entrance opposite one of their favourite bars, Revs. The castle attracted visitors far and wide from around the world. Its moat, opulent rooms and impressive keep were admired and photographed by all.
“The castle,” Steve said suddenly. “It has a keep.”
“What?” Robert reached for his hand through the shadows.
“The castle, it has a keep, the big building up on the hill, that’s what it’s called.”
“Yeah, and…” Robert nodded, his eyes wide.
“Well, what if that’s what he meant by finders keepers? The castle keep? Find our way to the castle and the keep.”
Robert laughed. “I think you’re clutching at straws.”
Steve frowned. “Well, he’s more likely to lead us there than the prison.”
“Why? It’ll be shut and isn’t the keep in the grounds?”
“Yeah.” Steve rubbed his forehead. “This is a wild goose chase. Let’s forget
