The Billionaires Love Curves Finale - a BBW BWWM Billionaire Romance
say anything, just held the phone to her ear.

“Lacey?” She recognized who was calling straight away.

    “Nate?”

“Yes, can I talk to you?”

“It's late. What's there to talk about anyway?”
“It's important, Lacey, and it won't take long.”
“I'm in bed, Nate, I'm not going anywhere and there's no way I'm staying up for you to come over here.”

    “I'm downstairs.”
“You're what?” Lacey slipped out from under the covers and went to the window. The black car was gone and there stood Nate, under a street lamp. Looking up at her window.

Shit, she thought. What if the security guys had really only gone down the street, they would report back to Cole and this would cause them to follow her again.

“Stay out of sight, Nate, I'm coming down.”
She put on a jacket over her pajamas, pushed her feet into her running shoes and went downstairs. She didn’t turn on the light in the downstairs hall but opened the door so that Nate could get as far as the top step.

“Can I come in?” he asked.
“No, whatever it is you have to say, say it here and say it now. I'm tired.”
    “I'm not surprised.”
    “What do you mean?”
“Well you're planning a wedding and it's in three weeks time, aren't you?”
    “What do you want, Nate?”
“What's the rush? Why did you change the date or was that Cole's idea?”
“Look, Nate I don't want you coming round here getting angry about me and Cole. You've done enough damage.”

    “Damage? What did I do?”

“You told me you loved me didn't you? Wasn't that just to mess with my head, get me confused so I'd break up with Cole?”

    “Is that what you think?”

“Well, what did you expect me to think?”

“That it was true. That I love you, Lacey.”

“He said you'd do this, Cole, he said you'd come around here, messing with me, trying to get me back so you could ruin things for him. How do you think it makes me feel to know I'm part of your game, Nate? You and Cole should have moved on from your problems by now.”

“He told you what I did to him, but did he tell you I was sorry?”

“You may well have been sorry but stealing someone's idea is pretty low, Nate. You have to admit.”

“I do. I've admitted it to him and I'm admitting it to you. I'm not proud of it but I can't take it back any more than he can take back what he did to me.”

“What did he do to you, Nate? Make as much money as you and make you cry?” Lacey folded her arms.

    “No, he stole my wife.”

There was a long moment of silence. Lacey saw the hurt in Nate's eyes, she knew this was no joke.
“Ah, so he didn't tell you about his revenge tactic then?” Nate said. “Didn't tell you about how he poisoned her against me by a strategic set of lies. She was sick and vulnerable and I was out of the house a lot, working. All the time he was working his way into her affection. To the point of her asking for a divorce.”

“I didn't even know you were married, Nate.”

“It wasn't a memory I wanted to share. It broke me and I couldn't function for a long, long time. But losing her wasn't the hardest thing, it's what he did.”

Lacey looked at him, blinking so her tears would not betray her feelings. She was believing his story and she could feel the hurt that altered his voice and made him choke.

“What did Cole do?” she finally asked.

“He left her. Took her all the way to LA, got her excited about wedding plans and then left her. But he didn't just walk away, he staged it so she would walk in on him with another woman.”

“I don't believe this, Nate. Cole would never stoop so low.”

“Really? So what do you think this wedding is all about? Why do you think he wants to marry you, Lacey?”

“How dare you, Nate. How dare you try to make me think that Cole doesn't love me. You're worse than he is. He told me how you burst into his office wanting a fight,
