different. Her hazel eyes were round and filled with sadness and her plush lips drooped. She looked so dejected, and the feeling of sickness in his core only grew.
    "What is it, Ivy?"
She twisted her hands nervously, an act of shyness she hadn't done in weeks. As their relationship progressed, she had become more confident and self-assured, and he rarely saw her look so dejected anymore. And yet there she was, looking like a frightened mouse.
Ryder's heart felt like it was dying. He kept his face blank and teeth clenched together, but his insides were boiling in misery. He quickly tried to think of how he'd keep her, how he'd convince her that this love was real. Because it was love - he knew that more than ever as she stood before him with guilt written all over her face. He loved her and there was no way he could let her go easily.
"I have something very important to tell you," she began, her voice barely louder than a whisper.
He gripped his desk, and nodded. He didn't trust his tongue, and used all of his strength to remain impassive. He was going to let her say her piece, and then he planned to do anything in his power to made sure she stayed.
"I'm sorry, Ryder. I didn't mean for this to happen," she continued on, her voice rising in pitch as she went. Hysteria was beginning to overtake her. "I must have forgotten to take my pills on schedule, with all the big projects and us traveling on vacation last month. I knew something felt different, so I called the doctor..."
A new feeling began to unfurl in Ryder's gut. Comprehension was breaking into his gloom, and hope filled him. "Ivy, what are you saying?"
"I got the results this morning." She dropped her eyes to the floor. "I'm pregnant, Ryder."
The words were barely out of her mouth before he was out of his chair and sprinting around his desk. He threw his arms around her waist and swung her around wildly. She yelped in shock, her tiny hands clinging to his muscled shoulders in surprise.
"And they are sure? We're really going to have a baby?" he asked as he set her down in front of him.
She nodded. "It's still early, but the doctor is sure."
"That's amazing." He cupped her face lovingly in his hands, looking into the beautiful eyes that had captured his heart. "Ivy, I couldn't be happier."
"Really? I was so afraid to tell you." Her resolve broke and she began to softly cry, burying her face in his suit jacket. "I was worried you'd be angry."
"Angry? Why would I be angry?"
Her tears shattered him. He scooped her up tenderly and brought her to the large couch in the back of his office. He sat down gingerly, settling her into his lap, and held her tightly. The sniffles began to die down, and her body relaxed as they sat quietly
"I didn't want you to think I was a gold digger," she said at last, looking up at him with tear-stained cheeks. "I see this baby as such a gift, and I'm excited for it. But we hadn't talked about children and it's still so early in our relationship. I didn't want you to feel trapped."
"Trapped? Ivy, the only thing I want in the world is to be bound to you. From the moment you walked in that door with your crazy smarts and curvy hips, I was a goner. Completely and utterly head over heels for you. I want you to have my baby. I want you to have ten of my babies, and wear my ring, and have my last name. Do you have any idea how much I love you?"
She looked up at him with big eyes, a small amount of doubt still swirling there. A part of her still saw herself as too nerdy to deserve love, and it hurt Ryder to see. The struggle to understand her worth and appeal was still hard for her, but he vowed right then and there to make sure she never forgot how much he adored her. He was going to devote the rest of his days to making her feel like the bombshell she was.
"I love you, Ivy. I want nothing more than for you to be the mother of my children," he repeated, smiling down at her.
He gently kissed her, holding her tightly to him. As their lips
