other’s eyes as reality dawns on us at almost the same time.
Harmony’s beautiful cat eyes widen and she frantically looks around.
“Oh my God.” Legs sliding down off my hips, she stands fully on her own. “Oh my God!” she says again but with more conviction. She scurries for her purse and, spying the strap under one of the metal wire shelving, bends over to retrieve it, flashing me a perfect view of her rounded ass. The growl escapes my throat before I can stop it, which makes her jump and spin around. Hand held out like she is trying to fend me off, my eyebrow raises in a silent question.
“No. I am sorry, Luc, about bumping into you, my attitude, everything. But this cannot happen again,” Harmony explains as she shakes her head.
“Son of a fucking bitch,” I sigh out, tossing my head back and scrubbing my hands down my face before looking back at her. “You’re right, Harm, I am sorry too. This won’t happen again.” Spying her discarded pages by my feet, I bend down and scoop it up. “Here is your missing paperwork,” I say as I hand her the tan colored file.
    “Thank you, Detective.”
“You’re welcome, Harmony,” I answer, refusing to go back to calling her Miss Saint-Marks. I think we have moved on to first names. “You go first,” I suggest.
    “Why me first?”
I look down at my protruding bulge and clear my throat before looking back at her. “Ah, I need a couple of moments,” I explain.
A blush covers her cheeks before she turns, straightens her back, and opens the door. A look left then right, she nods and walks with all the confidence in the world into the abandoned hallway.
Quickly closing the door behind her, I lean back and close my eyes trying to think of anything to get my boner to deflate. Guys, think of guys. Um…Rob, Tony, Will, the Chief… Snapping my eyes open, the realization of what just happened hit me fully. “Shit! What the fuck did I just do!?”
With my erection now non-existent, I am able to give myself a readjustment. Grabbing the doorknob, I take in a large breath, hold it for three seconds, then let it out in a calming exhale. My younger sister, Gabriella, is into the whole yoga is awesome kick. But all I see is unnatural body positions and a busted back. The breathing is a good idea though. That is something I actually listened to and now exercise a somewhat meditation. In secret.
Cracking the closet door, I copy Harmony’s lookout moves. All clear, I am back to walking the plain hallway within seconds, none the wiser. A quick check of my watch has me hasten my steps. I have little time left before needing to be at Rob’s. I need to hit my home gym and work out some tension. If I show up this wound up, Sofie will throw endless questions at me that I am not ready or able to answer. Jesus, I’ve fucked up.

Chapter Four

    Luccas…

Bare chested and in my workout shorts, I make my way down the six stairs that lead to my basement. After moving into my three-bedroom brick house the first thing I did was setup my gym. A lot of late night frustrations from a case has landed me down here. I use the weights and treadmill to clear my head and keep myself fit, ensuring a better job well done. When Viktor is home from deployment, he normally crashes in one of my extra rooms and has easy access to the gym, he has his own demons to work out without having to answering to Mom. God, how long has he been gone this time? Over a year. It has been too long apart. Thankfully his time is almost up. The plan has always been that when he’s out and done, he will move in here with me. I have the space and it will be good to see him safe.
Docking my iPod, I hit play. With remote in hand I get in position to start my run. Hearing the first strains of Eminem’s “Till I Collapse”, I turn up the volume to max and start pounding the belt. In a smooth jog, I try to lose myself in the beats of the song. I just need her out of my head. Everything I think, I feel,
