thought of somebody touching his girl killed him. He let out a painful cry into the night, the red moon hanging low in the sky.
Chapter 8
Anna forced herself to stay put. Every fiber of her being wanted to go to him. The call of mating drove her, and fighting it took more strength than she thought she had. Matt was her world. Matt was the one she loved. Matt was the one she wanted, but Matt had betrayed her. He broke her in ways that she didn’t know she’d ever recover from. She’d never trust him again.
If she gave into her urges…she’d never forgive herself. She deserved a man that would stand by her side, and not wander off every time an attractive woman walks by. She’d always have it in the back of her mind, aching to know what he was doing when he wasn’t with her. How could she live that way? Her body needed him, but her mind…she had to stay in control.
Matt’s cry in the night tore at her. Her nose twitched and her tail sprung out. Slowly she slipped into her fox form. She wanted him. Her body craved him. No. No. Stay strong .
“Anna,” he roared loudly into the night. He knew she was there. He could smell her. His territorial side forced him to stay put. If he couldn’t have her, nobody else would. He’d sit there all night, guarding her. He knew she was being stubborn. She didn’t know the truth. He couldn’t tell her. They were at an impasse.
“Anna, open the door,” he pounded. He needed her. His body was tormenting him. The urge to mate was strong. He wanted to be inside of her…claiming her.
Anna slipped to the front window and snuck a peek outside. No, no, no …she felt the high pitched yelping bark wanting to escape. No. Hold it in. Do not call out…
Matt sensed her and swung his big head in her direction, his long snout leading the way. He gave out a loud grunt and chuffed. His dark eyes longed for her.
Anna’s tail flicked. The urge to run and play was electrifying. The moon was calling to her. She knew Matt was her chosen one. She couldn’t hold him off forever. And yet, she couldn’t give in. Her fox and human collided. Her fox needed to play, to be chased, and to be wild and free. Her human was boxing her in, holding her back.
When she couldn’t take it anymore, she opened the door and shot past him in a jagged run, darting this way and that. The chase was on. Her fox had won this time.
Anna ran fast and hard, wanting him to work for it. If she was going to give in to him, then he damn well better catch her. Her heart raced as her legs moved beneath her.
Matt ran after her, elated that she’d come out to play. She knew there was no denying the fact that she belonged to him. They ran into the night, harder than their usual play. She was making him work for this…he knew. He picked up on the vibe. He’d prove to her that she was his only one.
When he finally caught her in a clearing, he wrapped her up and rolled with her. Together, then shifted to their human form, tangled legs, and arms.
“I need you,” he said, catching his breath. “I’ll always need you.”
Anna looked into his eyes and locked onto him. He was all she ever wanted. And being this close, feeling his arms wrapped around her, everything felt right in her world. But she was afraid. Afraid he’d let her down again. She pushed the thought out of her mind and let the red moon seduce her.
His warm breath was already milking her skin, his lips and teeth nibbling at the side of her neck. Anna tilted her head to the side, letting him in, showing her acceptance. Matt wrapped his hands up through her hair and drew her into a long, wet kiss.
Anna’s head swam with thoughts, but the more they shared steamy, passionate kisses, the more she got lost and let herself fall into the magic of the night. The chemistry between them sizzled and sparked. It didn’t matter what she was feeling at this point, she needed him. She needed to feel his body within her, and nothing would stand in their
