on shirts. No underwear. I don’t want any on in case I wake up with a boner. Which is pretty much guaranteed . We’re both addicted to that sleepy shag in the morning, when you’re not quite sleeping, but not yet wide-awake. Almost like making your own sexy dream. Certainly makes waking up a helluva lot more enticing. I’m pretty sure that waking up with my girl this close, I won’t be able to resist.
Snuggled deep in the swag, Eevie holds me tight.
“I love you, Aidan. Thank you for this.”
“Love you too, baby girl,” I say, and kiss her softly on the lips. “Do you think anyone else is as happy as us?”
“I dunno. It’d be pretty hard to beat what we’ve got.”
    “Yeah, I agree.”
The chilly breeze fades, and after a while, the fire dies down. Eevie’s breathing slows, but I can’t sleep.
I toss and turn for a while, which means I keep Eevie awake. It’s such a tight fit when the swag is zipped up.
I should tell her about the phone call. I wanna tell her, but I don’t wanna spoil the mood, not when I’m still high in the fucking sky after crazy camping-sex. If I get it off my chest, maybe I might get to sleep.
    “Can’t you sleep?” she whispers.
    “Nah. Just thinkin’ ‘bout stuff.”
She slips her hand around my waist. “Like what?”
“Just a phone call I had the other day. It was pretty unexpected.”
    “From who?”
“My father,” I say, trying to void my voice of any emotion. Her body tenses against me, and she is silent for longer than I expect.
“What did he say?” she finally asks.
“He wanted to see me.” My words hang heavy between us.
    “And what did you say?”
“That I don’t want anythin’ to do with him. I told him to lose my number.”
Eevie wriggles, and clears her throat. “You know, when I answered your phone the other week? He rang.”
“Huh?” Why didn’t she mention it? “What’d he say?”
“Well, I asked who was calling, and when he said he was your father I kinda freaked out and dropped the phone. Um, and then I kinda hung up on him.”
“Ha. I was tempted to do the same.”
“Sorry I didn’t mention it. I just, you know, freaked out I guess, knowing it’d been so long since you’d seen him, talked to him. I kinda went all overprotective.”
“Oh, babe. Doesn’t matter. He’s not gonna be a part of our lives.”
“How do you feel about him calling?” I guess being a Psych student, she’s gonna ask the tough questions.
“I dunno. Kinda couldn’t believe my ears. We didn’t talk for long, but I made sure I was clear that I don’t want anything to do with him. I’d always wondered how I’d feel, or what I’d do if he ever tried to get in touch. My flat-out first instinct was to tell him ‘no’. Once upon a time I would have ripped pieces from him, but I just firmly told him no. He didn’t say much else after that.”
“Sounds like you’re handling it pretty well.”
“Ten, fifteen years ago it would have been a different story. But the thing that prompted him was the fucker saw me in the paper. It’s a fucking joke. I’ve made somethin’ of myself, and now he wants to know me. Not when I was one year old. Not when I needed a father. As far as I’m concerned, he can go fuck himself.”
“You and I aren’t short of father issues, huh?”
“Yeah, but that shit doesn’t matter. My little world is right here,” I say, and growl into her ear as I squeeze her in a bear hug. She lets out a loud sigh, as if she’s been holding her breath. Is she worried about me?
“Mine too,” she says, and nuzzles into my chest.

In the middle of the night, a bell rings violently in the distance. I jump out of the swag and throw my jeans and hoodie on. This better be my fucking rod .
“We’re on Eevie, get up. Quick.” I put my headlamp on and pull my boots over my bare feet. Eevie stumbles around, half asleep, trying to dress herself. It’s funny as shit. I run down to the bank with Eevie close
