to explore.  An animalistic hunger ready to devour me; the aim to leave nothing untouched - everything had to be owned by him.
Four words were all it took to chill me to the bone.  Four simple words f illed with a terrifying meaning, f our words th at woke me from my fitful dream.
‘ You will be mine. ’
It felt like a premonition rather than a dream, but it was those four words that cut me to the quick.
‘ You will be mine, ’ I whispered back into the darkness.

Chapter Five

I woke to the soft melody of Eva Cassidy playing from the living room.  Beats the heavy rock music Zoe used to insist on waking me up with when she went through her punk rock phase.
A few seconds later, Zoe materialised with a cup of steaming coffee in one hand.
‘ Morning sleeping beauty, how’re you feeling? ’
She placed the coffee onto the desk then sat down beside me.  I shuffled over to look at her.
‘ As rough as hell, ’ I groaned.
She chuckled.  ‘ I thought as much.  I took the trouble of phoning the boss for you and explaining. ’
‘ Thanks.  What did you say? ’
‘ Told him you had serious period pains and you were literally gushing. ’
         ‘ Nice one! ’
‘ Needless to say he’d rather not know anymore and said he’ll see you tomorrow.  It’s great having a male boss. ’
‘ At times like these it is. ’
‘ Unfortunately I do not have your luxury this morning, so I better get going otherwise I’ll be late. ’
‘ Okay.  Thanks for the coffee. ’
‘ No problem.  Hope you feel more like yourself later.  Feel free to use what you like. ’
         ‘ Thanks. ’
‘ Bye hun, ’ and she got up and strode out of the room.
I relaxed back into the comfort of the bed linen as the heavenly voice of Eva Cassidy washed over me.  My eyelids grew heavy and I succumbed to a peaceful slumber.

About to get in the bath and Zoe’s phone rung.
         Great!
Grabbing a towel from the rails I wrapped it around myself and headed for the insistent ringing.
‘ Hello, ’ I rasped breathlessly, just making it in time before it rung out.  ‘ Zoe’s friend speaking, how may I help you? ’
The crackling of the line was my only reply.
         ‘ Hello?  Anyone there? ’
Still no voice, but as I pressed the phone closer to my ear I heard a wheezing breathing sound, as if whoever was on the other end of the line was desperately trying to gain their breath.
‘ Hello?  I know you are there, I can hear your heavy breathing.  Come on, who is this? ’
         Nothing.
         Stilted silence.
Not even the gasping could be heard.
‘ Come… ’ but the person hung up before I could say more.
Hmmm, I wonder what that was all about?
With a shrug of the shoulders, I shoved the incident to the back of my mind and strolled towards my waiting, scented bath water.  However, before I was able to make good on the enjoyment the phone rang again.
         For goodness sake!
‘ Hello? ’   The same thing happened.  ‘ St op fooling around.  I swear to G od, if this is a prank call I’ll… ’ but once again I was halted in my monologue when the connection cut off.
Bloody pranksters!  Sod this I’m going for that bath.
Thankfully I was uninterrupted when I finally managed to relax and enjoy the warmth of the water lap at my skin.  The heat soothed my aching muscles as the perfume scented bath salts eased my bunged up nose.  It was a luxury I wasn’t afforded very often and basked in the moment.  But it wasn’t to last.
Stepping out of the lukewarm water the ringing was back.  Not again!
         ‘ What? ’ I
