it with a smile but it didn’t reach his eyes. She knew he was saying it for the onlookers. Making them think they had something in mind. He followed her back and stopped when he saw Devine frozen in mid stride. Looking at her he just shook his head.

“You never do anything easy do you?”

“Look just help me get him inside his office. He was on the phone with someone about a target point. Well don’t stand there looking dumbfounded. Help me.”

He quickly came and watched as she picked Devine up with the wave of a hand. Devine may have been frozen but his eyes weren’t and he frantically looked fearfully between them. She floated him into the room and stood him in front on his chair. Unfreezing him, she tried to hold back her laugh when Devine jabbed his knee into the desk and howled with pain. With a flick of the wrist she deposited him in his chair.

“So what did you need me for?”

“Thought you would want to be a part of this. So Mr. Devine, who were you on the phone with?”

“Nobody.” He was now shaking with fear. “What the hell are you anyways, some kind of witch?”

“Something like that. Where’s the weapon?”

    “What weapon?”

“You know what we are talking about. The nuclear weapon you are selling.”

“Oh god. You have it all wrong! I’m not the seller, it’s my bouncer Max. Look, he has my daughter and told me if I didn’t play along I would never see her again. IT’S MY DAUGHTER!”

“Ok so who were you talking to?”

“Max. He got hold of some lab guy’s badge but he doesn’t fit his description. He said I did. He had me go inside and slip some liquid stuff from this guy’s lab.”

“Do you have it?” Jeremy asked. He could tell by the guy’s eyes that he was telling the truth.

“Yeah. I’m supposed to meet him tonight and do the exchange.”

“Your daughter for the weapon.” Jewel made the statement as she looked at him sadly. Hopefully this turned out alright for him in the end.

“Ok this is what we are going to do. Jewel is going to hide in the back of your truck. I will not be far behind you. We will get your daughter back but first we have to make another concoction that looks like the weapon and get it safely away. Where is it?”

Devine took the key from around his neck. Pulling out a book on the bookshelf they watched as it slid aside. He stuck the key in a safe in the wall and punched in a couple numbers. The door slid open. He then pulled out a metal black box and handed it to Jeremy.

“You will keep my daughter safe right?”

“I promise we will get her out.” This came from Jewel as she laid her hand on his shoulder. He nodded and turned away so they wouldn’t see the tears well into his eyes.

When he composed himself he turned back around. “So what do you need from me?”

“We need you to make the trade.” Jeremy pulled out his phone and dialed Darrell’s number. He talked to Darrell a couple minutes and looked at Jewel.

“He’s coming in as a customer. He will be here in twenty minutes. Devine if you want us to help save your daughter then you will act normal. Understood? Then I will meet you at the bar in an hour and give you the fake to switch with Max.”

“Got it. What about Jewel? She can’t go on if she is with me.”

“Jewel has the flu.” He looked at her with a grim face.

    “Who are you people?”

She stuck out her hand towards Devine. “This is Sheriff Jeremy Stevens and I am NCIS agent Jewel Banks.”

Jeremy saw Darrell as soon as he walked through the door. He slowly made his way to the bar. Sitting on a stool Darrell sat beside him and swapped the tubes under the bar. Darrell nodded to him as he took his drink and went to go sit down at a table towards the front. He sat through two dances then got up and left. Jeremy went to go find Jewel. After finding her he told her about Darrell and they got ready
