rest of the band arrived, it was back to business as usual, and setting up and getting ready for the next show was the name of the game. Sadie found her way back to her bus, and curled up with her laptop. Checking into the accounts, she tried to take her mind off the night before lying in Simon’s arms and listening to him sing to her. He kept crossing her mind, and the distraction made it difficult to get any work done.
As the show started, she found herself on the side of the stage, out of site, but in listening range. Watching him work the audience, she realized she’d grown a bigger crush on the rock star, and as silly as it was she hoped he enjoyed their night together as much as she did. She knew she’d just be another notch on his belt, and he’d be back to the groupies, bedding women left and right, after all that’s what rock stars do. Besides, it’s not like she could afford to fall for the guy, she had bigger plans, and that included taking the tour money and running. Feelings could not factor into things – it would only cause problems. She’d worked too hard to get this far, and Simon was the last thing she needed to be thinking about.
As the band brought the show to a close, Sadie sneaked off the stage, so she wouldn’t run into the star. Mooning over him wouldn’t do either of them any favors. Slipping down the hallway, she was out of sight and out of mind before he could see her.
It took her by surprise when he came looking for her later. Shouldn’t he be off with a teen tart getting another piece of ass?
“Hey,” he said leaning against the door frame. “Where did you run off to? Did you see the show?”
“Yeah,” she steeled herself, not wanting to give into the rush of feelings that were sneaking in when she looked at his face. “I had some things to do.”
    “Are you busy now?”
“Umm, actually I am,” Sadie stood and gathered her things, “I need to do some work, if you don’t mind.”
“Why are you running away?” He was direct, not letting her pass as she went to swoop under his arm with her laptop.
    “I’m not running.”
His arms wrapped down and around the woman, who felt the heat rushing to her cheeks. “Simon, I can’t, okay. I need to go.”
He looked at Sadie, “Okay.” He didn’t know what was going on, but he wasn’t giving up that easy. He had his pick of groupies, but for some reason, his heart led him back to the woman on his tour.
“Dinner?” He called out behind her as she fled down the hallway.
Turning to face him, “Fine, dinner.” What was she doing? She wanted to see him, be in the same room with him, spend time with him, kiss him again – and yet she desperately needed to stay away.

Simon put a call in with Bobby, “I’m going out for a bit. Don’t let the buses roll without me. What time are we pulling out?”
“You’ve got about three hours, where you going?”
“To grab a bite to eat, I need some fresh air.”
“I’ll go with you,” he started.
Simon cut him off, “Not tonight, Bobby. I have a date.”
“Sure thing, Simon,” he said understanding, thinking he was taking a groupie with him.
When Sadie and Simon left the building, they snuck out the back and had a car take them to a little bistro the driver recommended. Simon told him what they were looking for, and he delivered. A small Italian café named “Roberto’s” was just beyond the stadium.
They were shown to a corner table, out of the way, as the driver arranged when he told them who he was bringing in. The rock star was getting name recognition now, so people made allowances.
Sitting cozy and enjoying a glass of wine, Sadie and Simon got to know each other a little better. Sadie heard her voice before she ever saw the woman.
“Julie? Julie Monroe?” Her voice was way too loud for the small romantic atmosphere of the café.
Sadie cringed hearing her name and tried to turn away, but it was too late. Mary Alice, her long lost friend saw her
