Well, first it’s bowling, then it’s a movie, and then you’ll get married, buy a house, and have little slutty stripper kids. But if that’s what makes you happy. Who am I to stand in your way?”
I almost busted out laughing at her prediction. Drawing in a deep breath, I held it as long as I could. Several seconds passed before I was able to talk. “Can I ask you something else?”
    “Shoot.”
I hesitated for a second. I don’t know why. I knew the answer, at least I hoped I did. “Have you ever kissed a guy?”
“I’ve kissed my dad and my granddad.”
Shaking my head, I said, “I don’t mean relatives. I mean a guy. Have you ever had a real kiss from a guy?”
“You know the answer to that is no.” Her gaze fell to the floor as she nervously shuffled her feet back and forth.
“Well, I’ve heard from a reliable source that Brittani has kissed a guy, a few of them, in fact.”
“That doesn’t surprise me.” We sat in silence for another moment. Suddenly Tweet bolted up. “Oh my god! Are you going out with her so you can get some?”
Jerking forward I answered, “What?! Get some what?!”
“Brittani lovin’,” she accused, eyes narrowed and lips flattened as she shot a death ray glare at me.
“No! I’m going because… I don’t know… she asked me. Besides, you know how much I love the fries at the bowling alley. If you don’t want me to go, I won’t go. Just say so.”
Please tell me not to go. Tell me you want to be my girl.
All those times in the pastI knew Tweet liked me touching her. I couldn’t have imagined her reaction when we held hands or hugged. Then she started pushing me away for some reason. I could see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice that she didn’t want me to have anything to do with other girls. Or was it just Brittani? I was so confused. She kept running hot one minute then cold the next. I needed her to say the words.
Her head turned away from me. “Go.” She paused and my hope disappeared. “It’s just… I don’t think she’s the right girl for you.”
“Oh, I’m positive she’s not the right girl for me.”
Her eyes immediately shot up to meet mine. Maybe if I kissed her, got it out of my system, my head would clear, and things could go back to normal. Knowing Tweet, she’d need a lot of convincing, especially with the way she’d been acting lately.
Rubbing the back of my neck, I thought for a few seconds, and then I pushed. “The thing is… um… you know I haven’t kissed a girl yet. I’m not saying it’s going to happen but what if she kisses me and I don’t do it right? Word would get out and I might as well go be a priest because no girl would want to go out with me.”
I watched as the lump she swallowed slowly slid down her throat and I waited for her to say something. It seemed as if she was staring at my mouth as her eyes glazed over. If my Tweet-dar was working like it used to, my guess would be that she was thinking about what it would be like to kiss me. “Earth to Tweet,” I said, snapping my fingers.
“Sorry. Um… don’t worry about it. You’ll do fine.”
I leaned forward closer to her, rested my elbows on my knees, and pushed harder. “You know what would help me?”
    “What?” she asked.
“If I could practice.” I held her gaze for several seconds giving my words time to register with her.
    “With me?”
    “Yeah.”
Shaking her head, she said, “No, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“It’s a great idea. We’ll practice on each other, so we won’t embarrass ourselves in front of anybody.”
“I don’t have anyone who wants to kiss me in the near future.” A flush crept over her cheeks right before her chin dipped down to her chest.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
Her gaze rose and my grin widened.
    One more little push.
Slipping out of the chair, I got down on one knee and begged, “Think of it as preparing for your future.”
I could tell she wasn’t buying
