of excitement he saw in her eyes? It was there for a second then had disappeared just as quickly. “Basically, that’s the plan.” There. She almost smiled. They hadn’t lost her yet.
“Why me? You only know me from the café, and that hasn’t even been for that long. What is it about me that inspired you to ask me to do something like this?”
Now her hand rested over her heart. Josh didn’t fail to notice the gesture. After all, that’s what he had trained to do in Iraq. Be watchful of the small details. If he didn’t, one of those tiny details could end up killing him. Did her hand over her heart show a need to protect it? Had someone hurt her in the past?
Josh clasped his hands together again, lacing his fingers. “Willow, I’m speaking for all three of us here.” Which was a first. He didn’t usually go into long explanations of anything, but this little woman could truly make him feel like talking. “When I say that we’ve been looking for someone for a long time, we have. We didn’t think we would find her. Until we met you.”
“He’s right,” Jack said.
“Yep, you’re the one,” Mikey threw in.
Josh twisted his hands, growing nervous, which for him was a very unfamiliar feeling. “The way you are so outgoing and friendly, the way you honestly seem to listen to us when we talk about our lives—those things immediately drew us to you. Why do you think we come in the café every morning? The food is good but not that good.”
“Did you—did you just make a joke?” Mikey said, pointing at him with an exaggerated look of surprise on his face.
“Knock it off.”
Mikey slapped his hand against his leg. “Well, that settles it. You’ve got to agree to this now, Willow. No one has ever heard Josh make a joke. It could only be your influence that’s making him act like a human.”
Willow laughed then clapped her hand over her mouth.
Josh glared at Mikey. He didn’t like being made fun of, especially at this moment.
“What?” Mikey asked then shrugged.
“So you’ve been coming in the café every day just to see me,” Willow said, standing up. “Why did you wait until now to say anything? I mean, one of you could have asked me on a date before now.”
“Would you have said yes?” Mikey asked, moving closer to her.
“I’m here now, aren’t I?” She looked up into Mikey’s face. Then she reached up with both hands and pulled Mikey down, kissing him hard. Mikey didn’t hesitate, grabbing her ass and crushing her against him.
Josh felt heat rush into his face, his cock swelling in his jeans. He couldn’t wait to get closer to her, feel her smooth skin beneath his hands, see exactly what was at the other end of those tiger paws she had clawing their way out of her pants and up her back.
Willow released Mikey and stepped back. Raising her arms, she tangled both hands in her blonde shoulder-length hair, revealing the dark-brown low-lights beneath, her gaze locked on Mikey. She was breathing hard, lips parted, breasts heaving with every intake of breath.
“Oh my gosh,” she said, dropping her hands. “I don’t know what to think.”
“Say yes,” Josh said, coming to his feet. “Just give it a try.” He reached for her hand, enclosing it in his. It’s so small. “Willow?”
She looked up at him with big brown eyes, eyes he could drown in, and no one would be able to save his soul. “Tell me the truth,” she said, her voice low. “Have you guys ever done anything like this before? Participated in a ménage?”
“No,” Jack said.
“No,” Mikey repeated.
Josh looked deep into those eyes, knowing he was already lost. “No, never,” he said firmly. “Have you?”
She raised one eyebrow. “No, I haven’t—not that I haven’t wanted to give it a try.”
