my desk and let’s go meet the rest of
the team in the dining area.”
“ All business. I like it.” He
growled as he followed her out of the office.
This one was going to be trouble. And Melanie said
Dom was the flirt?
“ Well, thanks for the help Tyler.”
She smiled at him as she met Melanie at the door of the
Club.
“ Anytime. And I mean that.” He
smirked.
“ Go eat, Romeo.” Melanie narrowed
her eyes. “That boy has no idea what he wants out of life, and
that’s a shame.”
“ What do you mean?”
“ C’mon, let’s go sit down.” Melanie
directed her to a corner table. As soon as they sat down, the
waitress brought bread and salads, and filled their glasses with
water. “Tyler is a mess. He’s making a bad name for himself around
the league and doesn’t realize that will follow him. He’s a good
guy, but he needs to be saved from himself.”
Paige knew of his reputation. He’d definitely been
coming on to her earlier, but she knew it was a bad idea to think
too much about that. She wasn’t going to let him ruin this job for
her.
“ We’ll have our hands full tomorrow
night because they’re sitting him. We’ll need to announce it and
play it off that he’s ill before the media gets wind.”
“ Why are they sitting
him?”
Melanie took a deep breath. “They’re sick of his
attitude. You would never know with that sweet-as-candy act he was
giving us earlier that last practice he was starting fights with
Patrick Dubois. Ben’s tired of it all, and sometimes with Tyler the
only way to get through to him is to go extreme.”
“ That’s pretty extreme.”
“ Well, Tyler brought that on
himself.”
“ But why would he fight with a
teammate?” Paige asked.
“ Well, Ty and Pat have a troubled
history. The woman Ty was dating ended up cheating on him with
Patrick.”
Paige stared at her. Why would any woman in her right
mind want to cheat on Tyler? “Had they been together long? Were
they serious?”
“ Ty seemed to think so at the time.
But, you know, I never thought he and Gia would be permanent. They
never seemed to have any real chemistry, if you know what I
mean.”
“ Do you know her?”
“ I’ve met her a few times, but this
is mostly what I’ve heard from the guys. But Ty never seemed to
care about spending much time with her. And from what I’ve heard
about her, she wasn’t right for him at all. Obviously she was a
perfect match for Patrick though, because now they’re
married.”
Paige frowned, thinking of the social media cleanup
she’d done just this morning. “Well I understand that would make
for some bad blood between him and Patrick. But what about all his
other… habits?”
“ I can’t say for sure. But if you
ask me, he’s afraid to put his heart on the line again. And maybe
he doesn’t even realize it, but he’s punishing women in general for
what she did to him.”
Her mind was racing with everything Melanie was
telling her. She knew Tyler must’ve had reasons for his
self-destructive behavior, but this was more than she imagined.
“So, getting back to what you said before, about him needing to be
saved… Who would save him?”
“ What he needs is a woman who’s
loyal, and who loves him for himself, not for his name. She’d be
everything he never knew he needed.”
CHAPTER 5
This is such bullshit . Ty sat in the owner’s
suite above the other seats in the arena. He adjusted his tie; it
chafed the back of his neck. Rubbing the irritated skin, he shifted
in his seat. He hated being up here, overlooking the ice and his
teammates. He should be out there with them. There was no way they
were going to beat St. Louis without him. They needed him.
Sitting him tonight was a stupid idea. What the hell
were they thinking?
The PR team told the media that he was ill and would
be back for the next game. He still had the headache of the
century, so they weren’t completely wrong. The bar wouldn’t serve
him, and he was forced to
