He
couldn’t stand the idea of one of them sitting here with a shit-eating grin,
rubbing sunscreen into Molly’s back, copping a feel all the way down. The
thought of any of those meathead pricks laying their clumsy fingers on her skin,
making her sigh and moan in pleasure, had possessiveness and jealousy searing
through him in a dark wave, making him dizzy. Jack was so appalled, he lurched
back, breaking contact.
    I
have to get out of here.
    “Jack?”
     The
arousal in her voice had his cock jerking hard, but he quickly turned his back,
grabbing a nearby towel to conceal the erection tenting his swim trunks. He
hurried away, but not before catching one last glimpse of Molly pushing up on
one elbow, her face flushed, confusion and heat in her eyes, skin glistening
with sunscreen, and her free arm holding the loose pink band of material over
those mouthwatering tits.
    Son
of a bitch.

    EATING
ALONE WAS NO more fun in paradise than it was back in her apartment, Molly
discovered. Usually she avoided it by meeting up with friends or stopping by
one of her siblings’ houses for a bite to eat a few times a week, but neither
of those were an option at the moment. She looked around the little open-air
restaurant out on the pier, trying to enjoy her almost solitary meal.
    The
honeymooners had finished eating and were wrapped around each other on the
dance floor, oblivious to the world. There was no sight of the birdwatcher, who
apparently was an early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of guy, and she hadn’t seen
Jack since he’d stormed off earlier.
    What
a mess , she
thought.
    It
didn’t take a rocket scientist to understand what had happened, but Molly had
been surprised by the horror on his face as he’d stumbled away from her. Clearly,
Jack Roman was attracted to her, and just as clearly, he’d rather chew off his
own arm than admit it. His arousal on the yacht yesterday had been more than
just a knee-jerk male reaction to being pressed to welcoming female flesh. It
was bad enough trying to fight an attraction by herself, but Molly felt an
unwilling twinge of sympathy – he was in the same boat. Acting on it would make
things even more complicated than they already were.
    And
yes, her pride was a little stung. Just a little.
    Would
it be so terrible? It had felt so good.
    But
Molly couldn’t help wondering if Jack’s attitude problem was normal, or if it
was the result of the same kind of sexual frustration she’d been living with
since she met him. Bree adored him and thought of him as her stalwart older
brother, kind and chivalrous and perfect. Molly wasn’t naïve enough to think that
Jack was celibate, however.
    We
can’t all be goody-two-shoes schoolteachers.
    Molly
sighed, feeling relaxed and loose from the long day in the sun, though her mind
was whirling with questions. She wandered back toward her room, looking out at
the ocean and the stars, which were just starting to appear against the dark
night sky. The other bungalows were dark, except for the one at the far end.
    Jack’s, she thought.
    Feeling
unaccountably vulnerable and alone in the world, Molly leaned against the
railing of the walkway, the long skirts of her strapless sundress tangling around
her ankles. It was getting cool and she’d forgotten her sweater. She shivered.
    “Hey,
Molly,” he said.
    Molly
spun around, her breath catching as she spotted Jack strolling toward her,
sleeves rolled up, hands in his pockets.
    “I
didn’t see you at dinner,” she replied weakly.
    “I
was working on my book proposal. I’ll get something later.”
    For
the first time, he wasn’t scowling, and seemed almost contrite as he stepped up
to the railing to join her.
    “I’m
sorry about everything,” he said, to her surprise, “Bree tells me I can be a
real asshole. All the time.”
    “Oh.”
    “And
I didn’t expect you to be here,” he continued.
    Now’s
the time to be either really brave or really stupid, Callahan.
    “And
it bothers you that you
