the phone rang. âMaybe someone has found Spotzie!â cried Violet.
But no one had. It was Soo Lee, calling to say she could help the Aldens look for Spotzie the next day. Violet told Soo Lee everything that had happened and of their plan to visit Dr. Scott again. Soo Lee said she would meet them there.
The cat finished her meal. She jumped down off the refrigerator. She walked to a chair and hopped up on it. After washing her ears, she curled up and went to sleep.
âShould we give her a name?â asked Violet.
Jessie shook her head. âI think we should wait. What if she belongs to someone else and already has a name?â
âBut we can be thinking of names,â said Henry.
âOh, good,â said Benny. Then he said, âIsnât it kind of strange â now we have a cat, but Mr. Woods still doesnât.â
âYes, Benny, itâs still a mystery,â said Violet with a sigh.
âMaybe weâll solve it tomorrow,â said Benny.
âMaybe we will,â said Henry, smiling at his little brother. âMaybe we will.â
CHAPTER 7
So Many Cats!
S oo Lee was waiting by her bicycle at Dr. Scottâs office when the Aldens got there the next morning. They had brought Watch with them to keep his mind off the strange cat who was living in his house.
Watch had followed happily on his leash, but when he saw where they were going, he stopped and sat down.
âCome on, Watch,â said Henry.
Watch looked at Henry. Then he looked at Dr. Scottâs office building. At last he got up and walked over to Henry.
âGood dog, Watch,â said Henry. He bent down and petted Watchâs head. Soo Lee came over and petted Watchâs head, too. Watch slowly wagged his tail.
The Aldens and Soo Lee went into Dr. Scottâs office.
âMay we see Dr. Scott?â asked Jessie.
âIs Watch sick?â asked Dr. Scottâs assistant. She leaned over the counter to look down at Watch. Watch heard his name and looked up at her.
âNo,â said Henry. âWe put that sign up the other day.â He pointed to the sign about Spotzie on the bulletin board in Dr. Scottâs office. âBut no one has called. We thought Dr. Scott might have some ideas that would help us find Spotzie.â
âOh, yes. The missing cat.â The assistant nodded. âLet me check and see if Dr. Scott can see you.â
A moment later the assistant came back out. âDr. Scott said to come on back to her office,â she told the Aldens. She held the door open and the Aldens walked down the short hall past the examining rooms to Dr. Scottâs office.
When the Aldens and Soo Lee came in, Dr. Scott set aside the papers she was looking at. âHello,â she said, smiling. âWhat can I do for you today?â
âWatch isnât sick,â Benny explained quickly.
âMy assistant told me it wasnât about Watch. She mentioned the missing cat. You still havenât found her?â
âNot yet,â said Jessie. âWe were hoping you might have some ideas.â
Dr. Scott rubbed her chin. âHmmm. Youâve checked the animal shelter?â
âYes,â said Henry. âWe put a sign up there, too. But no one has brought in a lost cat like Spotzie.â
âAnd youâve looked all around where Spotzie was last seen?â
âYes,â Jessie answered Dr. Scott. âWe talked to everyone at every house on the street.â
âSpotzie wasnât wearing a collar with an identification tag, was she?â asked Dr. Scott.
âNo,â said Henry.
Dr. Scott shook her head. âItâs very important for pets to wear collars and identification tags.â
âEven cats?â asked Benny.
âEven cats,â said Dr. Scott. âThere are even special stretchy collars for cats. If the cat climbs a tree and the collar gets caught, the cat can slip loose without being
