pretty good at masking your emotions. Must be the vampire side of you. I feel you yearning for a great many things, one in particular.”
He knew which one it was—love. Lachlan knew he shouldn’t love her in three days, but he did. And how could he tell her this already. She’d run. He just knew it. He was shocked she hadn’t already.
“Aye, but it will have to wait.”
“Love doesn’t wait Lachlan. It hits you when you’re not looking like a ton of bricks. It’s wonderful and intriguing and terrifying that you can feel so much for one person. Love scares you, doesn’t it?”
Be honest, Lachlan , he told himself. Do it. “Aye, lass. Love scares the hell out of me. But much more than having it, I’m scared of never having someone who loves…me.”
She let go of his arm and entwined her fingers in his. God, his hands were big and soft, softer than she’d ever expected them to be. She laid her head on his shoulder and she swore he sighed. Okay, too much emotion for her Vampire for one night.
    “Lachlan?”
    “Aye?”
    “Do you have fangs?”
He burst out laughing. “Aye, lass, I have fangs.”
She was looking at his mouth. Her finger dangerously close to his lips. “Show me,” was all she said.
He closed his eyes, all his strength keeping him from her neck. Then as he opened them, his blue eyes were glowing.
    Oh wow.
And he grinned. There they were in all their glory—Vampire fangs.
She reached out to touch, but he stopped her. “Not a verra good idea. I’m fighting here not to take you to that bed there.” He pointed behind them. “If ye cut yourself on them, yer blood would be in my mouth. I’d lose it, Annalese.”
    She kept looking at him.
“Why do they glow, Lachlan? Your eyes. They glow.”
Ah, shit. This wasn’t an explanation he wanted to give, but Sophie said tell her everything.
“Here goes nothing. A Vampire’s eyes glow for a few reasons. Hunger is one—but I fed. And anger is also one, but I’m quite happy right at this moment anyway.”
    “So what’s left, Lachlan?”
“Aye, ye really are gonna make me tell ye, aren’t ye?”
“Lachlan, you said I could ask anything. I’m asking. Tell me, Lachlan.”
“Aye, fuck, lass. They glow when I’m, ah, aroused.”
Whoa! His eyes were glowing because he wanted sex. Oh boy.
“OK fang boy, down. I’m not going to say we won’t, but let’s get to know each other a bit more. Okay?”
“Aye, lass, okay. But could I kiss you again? That kiss was phenomenal.”
Lese didn’t say a word, she just leaned over and captured Lachlan’s lips with hers. This one was passionate from the start. He pulled her close, his hand in her hair.
God, she tasted like heaven. He pulled away.
“Oh lass, it can’t keep going, much as I want it to. My self-control is hanging by a thread. Any more kissing and I’ll have you in that bed and it won’t be for sleeping.”
Lese understood. Her self-control was almost gone, those familiar flames shooting straight to her core. She almost grabbed him to continue, not caring if they wound up in bed. She had been so lost in the kiss, she almost missed the feeling of desperation he had. Her mind processed it quickly enough to understand how badly he wanted her, but for so much more than sex. He really did want her for eternity. Wow. Just thinking about it made her smile. The girl that never wanted a boyfriend was going to have a Vampire in her life.
Lachlan was heading out of the room when she stopped him. “Don’t leave” she said.
“Aye, lass. I need to go for a walk. I canna keep my promise if I donna leave for a while. It’s the honorable thing to do.”
“But I really want you to stay. Talk to me, Lachlan.”
“Annalese, I want ye in a bad way. I have only an ounce of self-control left. I need to go stand in the snow for a while. Calm down. It’s been a verra long time since I was with a woman and even longer, one I felt everything for. I was still human then. If I donna leave
