it. "I can't do this anymore."
I turn towards him. Moisture is in the corner of my eyes so I blink it away.
"What else can we do?" he asks.
"I can't live this way. No more. Nothing has worked. It's not just her it's..." I trail off but I see it in his eyes. He knows. He nods slowly.
The door opens and Jennifer walks back in. She doesn't say a word looking between Archer and I. The tension in the room is so thick you could cut it with a sword.
    "Everything okay?" she asks.

Chapter seven
    Jennifer
Archer and Logan stare at each other. The tension between them fills the room making me edgy. No one speaks. It seems they're about to come to blows and I don't understand what's going on. I look between them but neither will meet my eyes.
    "Archer? Logan?" I ask.
Logan shakes his head and looks away first. "I should go," he says.
"No," I reply focusing on Archer. "Stay. What's going on? What happened down there?"
Archer inhales then sighs, his shoulders slump as he turns away. Logan stares at the floor.
"Nothing," Archer says. "Nothing at all."
I wait for one of them to make a move, to say something more but it's obvious they've reached an impasse.
    "It's me."
They both turn quickly then see the other one looking and glance away confirming what I know. Memories tug at me but what we've done before hasn't worked. Staring at the floor the past seems distant to me, like it happened to someone else. What haven't we tried?
"What do you do when I'm ... gone?" I ask.
Neither of them look up. They're not willing to bend in the slightest. Men. I wait.
Logan breaks first. "We support each other," he admits.
"Right," I say. "Each other. But when I'm here?"
    "We fight," Archer says.
I nod, waiting to see if either of them will see the truth they just admitted. Logan shakes his head as Archer reaches for an apple and turns it over in his hands.
    "Well?" I ask.
"What Jennifer?" Logan asks at last. "He's my best friend. Almost as much as you he completes my soul but we can't both have you no matter how we try."
"We've tried sharing you," Archer adds. "It's never worked out. How can two men share one woman? We love you. When I see you with him it makes me..." He crushes the apple in his hand throwing the pulp into the unlit fireplace.
"Exactly," Logan says. "I'm jealous. Is that what you want to hear? I'm jealous. I can't stand it when you're kissing him and not me. I want your lips on mine, I want to be the one in your bed every night, never let him have you and I know he feels the same."
"When you look at him and I see the love in your eyes," Archer says with unshed tears. "It drives me mad. I can barely control myself."
So many emotions blend inside me that I feel on the edge of exploding. My heart is filled with undeniable love for both of them. No matter how I try, I can't place one over the other. They're equal in my heart. My stomach ties itself into knots then flips over leaving me feeling like I'm falling or dropping on a massive roller coaster. Yet I feel as light as air like nothing can hold me down.
I walk over to Archer and take his hand. I hear Logan's breath catch. Archer looks at me hope with blossoming in his eyes. I pull him along with me back to Logan. I take Logan's hand in my other hand. The three of us stand together.
"I love you," I say looking at them each in turn to drive home my words and my intention. "I love you both. What I think you are missing is that you love each other as much as you love me."
    "Jennifer, we're not-"
"What? Gay? Of course not. You love me. Both of you and I love you both. Why do we always come back together? Why is it always the three of us and no matter how we try it never works? Because it's never been the THREE of us. It's been two of us and an extra."
They're confused. It's plain to see on their faces but deep down, below the prejudice, below the pride, understanding is starting to form.
"When I die, you two come together and you're as tight as any two people can be.
