he’s competing for the same resort job?”
“Right. He’ll be in Chicago. I know what he’s thinking.”
“Of course he’s thinking that.” Maddie sat back against the arm of the couch. “This technique’s been working great. Why wouldn’t he be thinking that?”
“I don’t trust myself. I swear if he kisses me I’ll be mush.”
“Morgan Rene James, you’ve got to pull yourself together. Tell yourself you can handle this. Now that you’re on to him it won’t happen, right?”
Morgan was already shaking her head by the time Maddie finished her sentence. “I can’t risk it. This will be the first time I’ve tried to resist and I can’t take the chance it won’t work and he’ll walk off with this job.”
“You’re a strong, independent, intelligent woman,” Maddie insisted. “Plus you should be pissed at him for this.”
“I am.” But she was feeling more mortified than anything. Here she’d been feeling like she was being romanced by Prince Charming while he was just using her to get her ideas. And it wasn’t like he’d been having a bad time doing it. She wasn’t the only one who’d left their weekends fully sexually satisfied. He’d ended up getting laid and promoted thanks to her.
She was mad. But she was obviously weak too. As soon as she’d figured out what he was doing she’d stopped returning his calls and e-mails, but she knew it would be harder to resist him in person.
She needed her defenses firmly in place.
“Then how does this new guy figure in?”
Morgan’s body seemed to sit up and pay attention the moment Doug’s image appeared in her mind.
“I met him at the fundraiser last month.”
    “Okay.”
“We had sex in the elevator.”
Maddie stared at her. “You’re turning into a slut.”
Morgan nodded. “I know. It’s out of control. I totally intended to avoid him, never see him again. I mean we both gave fake names. It was a one-night stand that didn’t even last all night. It was silly and hot and fun and stupid and never to be repeated.”
Especially after the hour in the jail cell she was not going to mention.
    “But?”
She breathed deep, feeling her blood heat thinking of that night. “He’s the only guy who’s had even more of an effect on me than Todd.”
    “Wow, no kidding?”
“Todd can touch me and I’m ready to go up to the room, but I’ve never been tempted to just hike up my skirt against the nearest wall. Todd uses flowers and lots of foreplay and romance. Doug just…” She licked her lips. “It’s going to sound crazy but we looked at each other across the casino and I wanted him.”
Maddie’s eyebrows shot up. “Damn, you’re so lucky. I want that.”
Morgan grinned. “Anyway, if I take Doug to Chicago I won’t have to worry about Todd. I’ll want to be with Doug so I can get work done and not worry about being with Todd and spilling everything.”
Maddie opened her mouth to respond. Then shut it. Then said, “I can’t argue with that. It kind of, strangely, makes sense.”
And it kind of strangely did.
    Strangely being the key word.

Chapter Two
Dooley took a moment to appreciate the view when he first stepped into the airport ticketing area. There were, of course, dozens of people milling about but his eyes went immediately to the built redhead standing off to the side of the main doors, checking her watch.
Morgan was dressed down, he supposed. She wore jeans, anyway. But the silky green shirt and black jacket paired with the black heels made her look stylish…and hot.
He took a deep breath. He was on vacation. For the first time in years. With the sexiest woman he’d ever met.
He was going to make the most of this.
He strode toward her, coming up on her side opposite of where she was looking.
“Sorry I’m late,” he said, just before he sank his fingers into the glorious ginger hair at the base of her skull, tipped her head and kissed her.
She wasn’t surprised for more than three seconds. She
