Jax gave them a look that said butt out. The old guy just gave a smile in return that said I’d like to see you try and make me.  The client gave Jax the thumbs up. Jax moved his body to block Emma’s view of them.

He looked down into her face. Emma seemed so small next to him, barely reaching his shoulders. She looked so cute and wet and Jax started thinking about that dream he had about her all over again.

Clearing his throat he told her in a voice that was a little too loud, “I’ll take you home.”  Jax winced when he heard snickering in the background from the unwanted crowd of two. He was tempted to flip them off behind his back but kept his attention on Emma.

"Why are you doing this?  How did you even know I worked late tonight?"  Jax watched Emma’s hair curling slightly at the ends, and he wanted to touch it but doubted she would let him.  Plus he still had her glasses.  He could use them as an excuse to see her but Jax was becoming a little attached to the things, which was stupid, but he didn’t care.  Jax would punch anyone in the face who questioned why he carried them around in his coat pocket and slept with them on his nightstand.

"I watched to see if you came home at your normal hour,” Jax gritted his teeth when one of the customers made an ‘awe’ sound behind him.

Jax didn't want to tell her the truth that he'd been waiting across the street from her work every day, to see when Emma was headed home. That he wanted to see her.

When she worked late Jax always followed. He'd been doing it since the first night he had walked Emma home.  He just didn't feel right letting her walk late at night unprotected, which was bizarre, because he was pretty sure Emma felt like he was more a predator than a helpful neighbor.

"I'm just fine as you can see."  She walked past Jax waving goodbye to people as she exited the building.  Jax paused at the door and gave a smug smile to the people inside before running after Emma who was halfway down the block. It had stopped raining but Jax was pretty sure he would have dragged her out of the shop if she hadn’t left soon, rain or no rain.  Not that he couldn’t take some well meaning teasing but Jax wanted to get Emma alone.  He’d been biding his time for two whole weeks trying to wait until Emma came to him.  Disappointed, she hadn’t.

"How do you know those guys?"  He tried to keep the jealousy out of his voice as Jax walked uninvited beside her.

Jax had almost gone ape shit when he’d seen Emma go into the shop.  He'd imagined some tattooed and pierced bad ass trying to get into her panties.  If anyone was getting into Emma’s unmentionables it would be him.  Oh my god, he had it bad. How could this have happened to him so quickly?

"I love tattoos, and when I got a job at the market Brad noticed me walking by like clockwork every day.  One day he saw me stop and look at the signs on the door, so he came out and talked to me."  Emma's voice took on a dreamy note, "Brad watches out for me. He knows my dad and isn't a fan."  The mention of her dad broke the spell, and she seemed a little sad.

"I don’t like your dad either," Jax muttered.

"He wasn't always this way, he lost his job and it seemed to change him."  It wasn’t the whole truth but Emma didn't want to talk about her dad right now.

Jax wanted to say it wasn't an excuse for the way he treated her but he himself hadn't been much kinder to Emma in the past.  He didn't know what to do.  He’d known in some way that his bullying her had hurt her.  Jax was not known for having a conscience; it was starting to feel like maybe he was growing one.  It wasn’t exactly a feeling he would recommend, Jax thought.

"I know saying I’m sorry for being such a jerk is probably nowhere near making up for the past, but I am sorry for hurting you."  The words
