turn to be in control,” he said, his gentle voice transforming into a sinister one as his mouth contorted with rage.
Her green eyes widened in fear.

Exhausted, he sat on the bed and attempted to reflect on the events of the evening, making sure that he didn’t leave too many clues behind for the men dressed in blue uniforms. Inhaling a long, deep breath, he took in the surroundings of her bedroom and noticed that a familiar song was playing on the radio. He looked up at his reflection in the tall mirror on the wall in front of him and a wicked smile played on his lips as he ran fingers through his dark, wavy hair.
    Ahh, I love this song.
Nonchalantly, he stretched to turn up the dial and chuckled at the irony. Captain and Tennille’s hit single, ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ was playing.

Chapter Four

“Can you believe there was another murder last night?” Ronnie asked, gazing out the large picture window of the scenic restaurant. “I think barhopping with the girls during happy hour might be coming to an end,” he said in a firm tone to Katie.
In disbelief, Lexi glared at her sister across the table. “Why didn’t you say something?”
Katie lowered the menu to meet her eyes. “The excitement about your new job was so much fun that I didn’t want to ruin the moment.”
Leaning in toward Lexi, Rich whispered, “No one saw his victim leave the bar. She was there one minute and gone the next,” he added with a snap of his fingers.
    “Jesus.”
He shrugged and stirred the ice in his Harvey Wallbanger. “I’m not trying to scare you, just stating a fact. The gruesome reports were all over the news today. This guy has definitely become a local headliner.”
“Can we change the subject, please? My sister landed a great job at the hospital, and we’re supposed to be celebrating.”
“Congratulations are in order. Welcome to Pompano, kiddo!” Ronnie exclaimed, raising his glass.
After everyone cheered and clinked glasses, Rich took a large gulp of his icy drink. “I think you’ll like it in our neck of the woods, Lexi. You just have to pick your friends carefully. Some of the women in this town aren’t so choosy,” he said, tilting his head toward the beautiful view of the ocean.
“Could we welcome my sister into town, not scare her out of it ?”
“I hope you’re all ready to order because our lovely waitress is heading in this direction,” Ronnie warned as a young woman advanced toward them. “I hear if you aren’t prepared the first time she approaches, she’ll stab you with a fork,” he joked as everyone chuckled.
“You’re so funny, I almost laughed,” their server answered with a smirk, her hand firmly planted on a hip.
“We have a new friend who just relocated here, and I’m trying to lighten things up. The reports on the news haven’t been so inviting to newcomers—especially young women.”
“Welcome to our little beach town,” she said before drawing in a long breath. “Just be careful who you go out with. There are a lot of handsome men in this town, but some of them aren’t so nice.”
Lexi blinked twice. “You sound like the voice of experience.”
“Just call it my tip of the day,” the waitress continued, her piercing blue eyes meeting Rich’s dark brown ones. “Would y’all like to hear the specials?”

“I’m feeling a little guilty leaving my sister alone with your brother,” Katie said as Ronnie unlocked and pushed open his apartment door.
“She seemed perfectly fine with the idea of listening to some albums over at his place.” Ronnie shrugged and cocked an eyebrow. “Rich has a better sound system than I do. Although I have a much better set of tools than he does,” he joked, moving to nuzzle her ear.
Turning her around, his lips immediately started exploring her soft mouth while agile fingers unbuttoned Katie’s shirt and twisted her firm nipple as she slid her palm over the hard bulge that
