relieved. It was very direct... not the usual way to go about getting a girl to like you.
Eve worked her way through the week, narrowly avoiding Jen and Geoff again as she worked late in the office. She heard some female laughter and had forgotten that working late was really not an option in the office anymore. She quickly gathered her things and went over to the Metro station. She got off at the Adams Morgan stop and went to her hair stylist.
“I want something different. I’m sick of my hair. I was born with this. I want something mysterious,” Eve said, settling into the chair she fluffed her hair and stared at it like it was challenging her.
“Mysterious? That’s a new one,” Jill mussed Eve’s hair. “You know you’re going to break my heart dyeing this hair. You’re not trying to pull like a Brittney Spears on me? You don’t want me to shave your head or something?”
“No, no. I just want,” she sat and thought a second, “I want to feel different. I met someone new and... let’s just get this over with okay,” Eve said. She’d lose the courage to do it if she didn’t move fast. Everyone always had a fit over her “perfect” Strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. She was sick of her hair and how everyone treated her with it. It was difficult to even be taken seriously in her job most days. While maybe another decade of experience would deal with that, she wanted to be taken seriously by Matt and everyone else today. She wanted a different life.
“Okay, brown it is, but don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Jill whined.
Eve was utterly enchanted with the results. Jill had a big mouth, but she was a terrific stylist. “It’s very….very—”
“Oh my God, you hate it,” Jill said.
“No, I love it. It looks just like I wanted. Thank you,” Eve smiled and gave Jill a hug.
“Thank God, thank God!” Jill shook her perfectly manicured nails at the ceiling. “Okay, I hope this new guy loves it or screw him.”
    “Agreed.”

Eve arrived at the art district’s warehouses on Saturday and was immediately lost. She kept trying to find #2, which seemed easy enough, but none of the artist’s lofts and work spaces in the warehouses were marked.
“Over here!” a voice yelled. Eve turned around to see Matt waving out of his third story window high at the top of the warehouses’ roofs. “Look to the left! It’s that door! Come on up!” Eve tottered across the rocky parking lot in her Louboutins. She wanted to make a sexy impression, but she was immediately regretting that decision. She reached the door and it opened before she could reach for the door knob, which was placed British style right in the middle of the red door. “Come in…I almost didn’t recognize you.”
Eve momentarily forgot she had changed her hair color, “Oh, yeah. I just got this done.”
“Well, I like it. Why did you do it?”
    “Sick of the other.”
“You are a natural blonde though, right?”
“Yes, and no, I don’t miss it.”
“Well, good for you, change is good. It can be very…stimulating.” He led her back beyond his metal shop where he was working on some new pieces.
“I didn’t even think I’d get to see some of your new work. This is a huge treat for me,” Eve said. The cavernous loft was filled with metal sculpture twisting in every direction. There were some new pieces with leather and metal started in a far corner. Eve began to walk over towards them wanting to peek into an artist at work and what that entails.
“Do you have something for me?” he said, getting less than an inch away from her chest, blocking her from going forward. Eve fumbled in her purse and brought out the tape. Matt took it and brusquely slid it across a work table. “Later.” He took her hand and led her to his newest piece. It was a huge monolith, a staggering piece of metal that he was trying to work an interesting finish on.
“This reminds me of the Washington Monument, in a way,” Eve
