Defying The Alliance: INFERNO (Novokin Alliance Invasion 2)
filled my senses. A soft growl reverberated in his chiseled chest inciting a tightening in my core. Smoldering, hazel green eyes pinned me in place stirring the burning coals of my heart. The air between us crackled and my breath caught in my chest. His luscious lips eased into a lopsided grin before he was off into a hail of plasma bursts.
"I don't want you to leave me either." My words were but a whisper and lost to him in the ensuing firefight.
Strong hands pulled me toward the opposite direction, toward our primary goal, the cure.

Chapter 7

Trex exploded through a set of heavy double doors, plasma beams chasing his every step. Turning, he fired at the cement beams above the now pockmarked doors. The ensuing collapse would give him some time to get his bearings. By his count it had been twelve minutes since he separated from Caspia. His agitation was growing with every passing second. He could hear the plasma beams from the other side of the rubble attempting to melt the rocks. His pulse quickened. He'd love nothing more than to take out his frustration on the Novokin soldiers that dogged his trail. But he had finally spotted his real enemy. The murderer who destroyed every living being on his planet. Asmot.
The pile of rubble shook, letting him know that the soldiers would soon break through. He had to find Caspia. Long muscular legs carried him down three hallways and two turns before he burst through another set of double doors. He found himself surrounded by metal hospital biobeds and a dozen miniature, unarmed Novokins staring back at him. Novokin younglings.
His body froze. But his blood stream still full of adrenaline burned at the sight of purple skin. His mind grappled with itself. Still focused on his unwavering hate for all things Novokin. But Novokin younglings? Innocents.
Realization that they held no threat helped cool his blood. Allowing him to digest the details of his surroundings. Wide open, light violet eyes cropped up behind purple little fingers, clutching tight the white hospital covers. A few crouched underneath the small metal beds, mouths open. They were afraid, of him.
In all his travels he'd never seen Novokin younglings, nor any Novokin females. Until today. Except for the stories that alluded to a steady stream of females disappearing in the wake of certain Novokin ships, he would've believed the purple craokecks to only reproduce asexually.
Soft pressure on his thigh pulled his attention downward. A tiny purple finger poked at his muscular thigh. He growled, and leaned down toward the small waif of a Novokin youngling. She couldn't have been older than six or seven. Her head was smooth, and her eyes sunken and hollow. She reached out to grasp his hand. A beautiful, pure smile brightened her thin, sickly face. Revealing two gaps where her primary teeth had fallen out.
Trex lowered to one knee holding the small purple Novokin hand within his large golden palm. Purple was the color that haunted his dreams. The color of his enemy. The color that ignited a blaze of hate in his soul. Now, he held that purple flesh in his powerful hand, so innocent and vulnerable. Would this feeble youngling one day grow up to also be responsible for the deaths of millions? Was she too sick to survive? Should he put a stop to her existence?
He tilted her chin to look straight into the little Novokin youngling’s violet eyes. No hate, no evil, no cunning, no darkness hid in their depths. Quite the opposite. He saw pure light, innocent curiosity and sadness. Sadness that resembled his own.
Her other arm moved forward as she offered him her doll. When he didn't immediately accept it, the little Novokin pushed into his chest and straight into his heart.
"Hello. Will you play with me like my friend Marr Marr?” Innocent, big violet eyes transfixed him.
"Who is this Marr Marr you speak of little one?" Holstering his weapon, he accepted the fluffy doll with a nod of his head.
