his hand as he dips his head down to peer into my eyes. Sure, I had been told I was pretty before, by my mother for example, but never by anyone with his sexual magnetism. It radiates off of him in waves. His intensity makes it difficult for me to appear unaffected. Trying to steady my breathing, I shake my head no.
“Well, they should have. I am going to kiss you now.” I inhale sharply as his lips brush my cheek, and he trails little kisses along my cheek to the corner of my mouth. His lips feel soft and warm and tingles shoot through my body. Our mouths open, and his tongue feels along the inside of my lips. Another, stronger wave of heat rushes through me. I know that if he asked, I would be willing to do anything with him in this moment. I have never been so turned on by a kiss.
James breaks away, and I am left gasping. “Come home with me.” His voice is remarkably steady considering we are both breathing hard.
Although I am incredibly turned on, I also am not in the habit of going home with men I have just met. “This is moving a little fast for me,” pops out of my mouth seemingly of its own volition. At the same time my body is screaming “Yes, yes, yes.”
The cab driver pulls up in front of my building on 51st Street, and James tells him to give us a moment. “I know you are home, and you could just get out here, but I want you to come to my place with me. There’s no pressure. We don’t have to do anything that you are not comfortable with. I just don’t want this night to be over yet.”
My eyes meet James’s steady gaze, and I can see the smoldering desire banked there. Maybe it is stupid to put so much trust into someone you have just met, but I give his invitation serious consideration. When is the last time I have taken a risk? My gut tells me that I will be safe with him, and besides, people have one-night stands all the time, right?
I make my decision. “I have to be home tomorrow for brunch.”
James gives me another one of his panty-melting smiles and presses a short, hard kiss to my lips before giving the cab driver his address.

CHAPTER 4

We fly down the West Side along the Hudson River, stopping at a high rise facing the river. The building looks modern and new. There is, of course, a doorman and, if I am not mistaken, a concierge as well. I barely glimpse the lobby as James pulls my suitcase towards the elevators. He lives on the top floor, and the elevator opens up directly into his living space. He must not have any neighbors. I turn and see a wall of windows overlooking the Hudson River. I walk over the dark hardwood floor to admire the view.
James walks up behind me. “The glass is soundproof, so there is no noise from the traffic.” I glance down and see cars traveling up and down the West Side Highway. He is right; it is completely silent, which is unusual for Manhattan.
The next thing I notice about his apartment is its open layout and size. He must be doing quite well to be able to afford this kind of space in Manhattan. The décor is modern and white except for accents of dark brown. On sunny days the room must be blindingly bright with the windows and white décor. The watercolor hanging over his dining room table gives the room its only splash of color. “Did you pick the artwork?” I ask as I head over to it to get a closer look.
“No, but I am told that it makes the room work.” James   comes up behind me and startles me by placing his hands on my waist. I cover my surprise by turning around. His nearness combined with the burning intensity in his eyes make me gasp. Before I can recover my breath, James’s mouth envelopes mine in a kiss that I can feel down to my toes. He walks me backwards until my back is up against the wall next to the painting. His hand feels like a hot brand when it touches the skin under my shirt. He makes slow circles with his thumb, just brushing the undersides of my breasts. Warmth floods through me. I want to
