at the number on the receipt. “Why five hundred? We usually charge half of that.”
“Short notice.” Charli grinned. “I made them pay.”
“You bitch.” Audrey couldn’t help the smile lifting the corners of her lips, but immediately reined it in. “That still doesn’t resolve the issue of who will provide the entertainment.”
“Audrey, you have to.” Charli took the receipt from Audrey’s fingers. “Aren’t you the one who always says we can’t disappoint our customers?”
“You were the one who made the appointment, you figure it out.”
“You’re right. I shouldn’t have gotten you involved. I’ll call and cancel.” Charli turned and headed for the office, the receipt in her hands, her head down.
Audrey’s gaze followed. Part of her wanted to say, Damned right! But the part that had been with Jackson last night in the storeroom wanted to dance for the Gray Wolf brothers. But how could she when she was trying to establish herself as an upstanding businesswoman in a small town? She hadn’t danced since she’d bought the Ugly Stick, trying to play down her reputation as a stripper ever since. Hell, the townspeople had only just started speaking to her while staring into her eyes, not down her cleavage.
Then again, her batteries were dead in her vibrator and she hadn’t had a decent orgasm in…oh hell, too long to remember.
“Wait.” Audrey hurried after Charli and caught her as she completed punching in numbers on the telephone.
“What?” Charli stared up at Audrey, all innocence.
“We’ll do it, damn it.” Audrey ripped the phone out of Charli’s hands and set it in the cradle. “But don’t ever pull this crap on me again. I won’t be manipulated.”
Charli’s face split into a grin. “I promise. I just knew you were the right person for this gig.”
“Not me. I have someone else in mind.” An idea had begun to blossom, and she turned away before Charli could guess what it was. “I know just the right person to do this job, and she’s available.”
Charli grasped her arm, spinning her around. “But that’s not…”
Audrey stared down at Charli’s hand. “Not what, Charli?”
    “Not what…I had in mind.”
“What did you have in mind?” Audrey pursed her lips.
    “You.”
“Well, it’s not going to be Audrey Anderson strutting her stuff in front of the Gray Wolf brothers. She hung up her dancing shoes when she purchased the Ugly Stick. Besides, I have someone better in mind.”
    “But—”
Audrey gave Charli what she hoped was a withering look. “But what?”
Charli’s face scrunched as if dodging a hit. “Did I mention they wanted someone willing to throw in a little kink?”
“Kink?” A shiver of unwanted excitement skittered across Audrey’s skin. “What do you mean kink?”
“I don’t know, maybe a little sub and Dom action.”
“Just who gets to be the sub?” Audrey planted her fists on her hips, looking anything but submissive, while inside her body quivered.
The other woman clamped her lips shut, her forehead wrinkled in a worried frown. “That part is optional of course. Don’t worry. I’m sure they’ll be happy with just a dance.”
“They’ll have to be, because that’s all they’re gonna get.” Audrey shook her head. Charli had gone way past the limit this time. She’d have to have a long talk with the girl when this was all over. “You’ll have to cover the bar tonight, this might take some finagling.” And she was just the finagler to do it. A plan formed in her mind that would fulfill a company promise, satisfy her sexual frustration and keep her reputation intact. It was a big order to fill, but one she could do if she played her cards right.
Self-doubt hit her as soon as she skipped out the front door of the bar.
Had it been too long? Had she forgotten everything in the past two years? Could she get away with it and not get caught? Audrey’s heartbeat skipped into overdrive as she climbed into her
