you make it seem. You will have someone
waiting on you hand and foot. That sounds heavenly to me,” she
said. Julie looked at Meg and shook her head.
“ You
don’t understand. Steven getting a nurse here means that I
might not get back to work until I give birth. I don’t think he
is only hiring her…or him for a few months,” she said.
“ What
makes you think that?” Meg asked as she looked into Julie’s
eyes.
“ Well,
Steven and I have always had an insatiable appetite for each other.
But now he won’t even touch me. Do you really think that he is
going to leave anything to chance?” she asked. Meg raised an
eyebrow and then shrugged.
“ You
know what, just chill out and talk to him, have some alone time and
then get laid for God’s sake because you are driving me crazy,”
she said. Julie shook her head and looked at her questioningly. “Yes,
honey. You are driving me crazy. I mean, Steven cares about you and
he went from not being able to have kids to a situation where he
literally came home to being a potential father. You have to give him
a break.”
Julie
sighed. Meg was right. She was being irrational.
“ But
we will never be able to have any time alone ever again,”
Julie said.
“ And
do you think when the baby comes things are going to get any better?”
Meg asked. “This is your training manual. And I think it just
began,” she added as she heard the doorbell. Julie sighed as
she watched Consuela walk to the front door.
“ Oh
dear Lord,” she
thought to herself as she looked at two men carrying in boxes of what
she made out to be medicines. “Do I even need that much?”
she asked in a low voice. She looked at Meg and shook her head. “I
don’t think I can do this.”
“ I
wish someone had done this for me when I was pregnant,” she
smiled. “Remember, this is about more than just you,” she
added as she stood up.
“ Where
are you going?” Julie asked.
“ I
think your husband just got home. I need to make myself scarce for a
few hours if not the whole day,” Meg answered before she gave
Julie a quick hug.
“ Leaving
already?” Steven asked as he walked into the living room. There
was a tall dark haired woman with him.
“ If
I stay any longer, I will be committing gross injustice to my
apartment. Besides, my son is around this weekend so I have to go
shopping. That boy eats like there is no tomorrow,” Meg said.
Steven smiled.
“ Growing
pains,” he said. Meg shrugged. “This is Chloe. She will
be staying with us for a while. Chloe, this is Meg. Part of the
family.”
“ Nice
to meet you but I really have got to run,” Meg said with a
smile as she quickly made her way to the front door.
Julie
forced a smile as the two men walked towards the exit. There was a
short hushed conversation between Steven and Chloe as the two men
walked past them. Julie stood up and walked to where Steven and Chloe
were.
“ Chloe
this is my wife, Julie,” Steven said smiling. Julie looked at
Chloe and forced out a smile once more.
“ Nice
to meet you. Can I get you anything? Water, coffee, tea?” she
asked as she looked at Chloe.
“ No,
thanks. I just want to get settled in first,” she said.
“ Consuela
has your room all set up. I’ll go get her,” Steven said
with a smile before he walked off. Julie looked at her new nurse and
shook her head.
“ Would
you like to sit down while you wait?” she asked as she led
Chloe to the living room. “I’m sorry…I didn’t
get a chance to straighten the place up. I didn’t know you…”
she took a long deep breath as she sat down. Chloe looked at her and
smiled.
“ It’s
fine. There is no reason to go out of your way at my expense,”
she said as she sat down. Julie looked at her and wondered what she
was supposed to say. She wanted to yell out ‘I don’t need
a nurse’ or something along those lines but she found herself
tongue tied. “Listen, I looked at your medical file and
honestly I am in awe. And I know that
