    I spooned some sugar into my coffee. “Um, I really didn’t think we had that kind of relationship, to be perfectly honest.”
    “Maybe that’s the kind of relationship we should have.” He folded his hands on the table. “Maybe I shouldn’t have been such a jackass the past year and treated you like you were second best when I really did need you in my life.
