about her personal life. âAdam plays soccer. A forward. Heâs very good.â
Most of what she knew of Alexa Carmichael, Juliet learned from surfing the web. Her husband was a doctorâa plastic surgeon, to be exact, which explained her bossâs flawless face. Sheâd also seen Alexa pull into the parking lot driving an Aston Martin, which likely cost more than Julietâs condo. So the couple didnât want for money.
Juliet passed through the lobby with its shiny tiled floors and tastefully decorated waiting area. To the left of the receptionist counter, a wide corridor led to the executive offices.
She walked past her own office and briskly headed toward the door leading into Alexaâs office suite. As her hand reached for the brass handle, a set of masculine fingers covered her own.
âAllow me.â
Julietâs gaze lingered on the bit of hair on the knuckles before glancing up.
Greer Lathamâs face drew into a slow smile, one that left Juliet feeling a little unsettled. After a tentative nod, she pulled her handaway and took a step back, admiring his thick sandy-colored hair, cut to precision. He wore a charcoal tailored suit and a crisp white button-down with a striped tie in shades of gray. His eyes never left hers as he eased the door open.
âWeâre here for a one oâclock,â he told the assistant perched at her desk outside Alexaâs door.
Muriel Parke, an older woman with bulldog features, harnessed the respect her position provided and wore it like a winnerâs garland. No one got to Alexa without first going through Muriel. âSheâs waiting,â came her reply.
Juliet followed Greer into Alexaâs office, a showplace with ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking a courtyard featuring a waterfall and lush greenery. Her furniture was old-world style, with dark woods and intricate molding. The plush carpet was a leaf design in shades of teal and cream.
Alexa immediately waved them over to a round granite-topped conference table in the corner. âThank you for coming on such short notice,â she said.
Juliet took a seat opposite Greer, next to Dale Frissom, vice president of operations, while Alexa announced she had extremely good news. âWeâre about to close a deal with Water Circus,â she reported. With her pen, she pointed at Greer. âYour team did an excellent job putting together the proposal and making the pitch.â
A slight smile broke at the corners of Greerâs mouth. âThank you.â He pulled at his right cuff. âThe deal was a bit tricky. We worked hard to put this one in the bag.â A smug assurance played across his face.
Alexa rewarded him with a wide smile. âThe prospect of this deal clinched our merger with Montavan. But Greerâs right. The negotiations have been tricky.â She tapped her pen against her open palm and turned to Dale and Juliet. âSurprisingly, Water Circus wants to increase volume immediately to levels far greater than we anticipated. If we can meet the demand, they have agreed to giveus exclusive retail rights for all the bottled water at the park.â As she said this, her eyes took on an excited shine. âAll of it . . . Do you have any idea what that means?â
Greer chimed in. âA bottom-line increase of over twelve million dollars annually.â
Dale rubbed his cheek. âAnd a pretty fair strain on production resources. Weâre not at capacity yet, but what are we talking here?â
Alexa explained what would be required, adding that sheâd make sure he had the equipment and personnel needed to accomplish the job.
Dale slowly nodded. âWell, if necessary, we can lease an additional facility. Thereâs plenty of vacant warehouse space nearby.â His face broke into a grin. âIâm in.â
Alexa clapped her manicured hands. âExcellent. We can look to an outside staffing agency for any
