in place.
When yet another presence joins me I silently curse my luck.
“What’s wrong with her?” A girl asks with an annoyed tone.
“She’s messed up.” Liam bites out harshly to her before directing his voice to me. “Isn’t that right, Eve?”
Moving my head off of the table I glare up at him. “Go to hell, Liam.”
He snorts as his eyes pierce mine. “I’ve already been there.”
Another presence joins us and Liam’s smug smirk falls as Eric sits down next to me.
He silently hands a lunch bag over to me before opening his own.
He takes out a sandwich before nodding towards my bag. “You forgot to take it this morning so I figured we could have lunch together.”
I nod and then reach into my bag, producing a sandwich like his.
He grins and takes another bite before turning his attention towards Liam. “So, is this the jerk who decided to climb into my daughter’s room this morning while she was getting a shower?”
I nearly choke on the bite I had just taken of my sandwich as his question comes out.
Liam’s eyes go wide as he looks towards the girl.
“What’s he talking about?” She clips out.
“He’s full of shit, Amy. I wasn’t in her room. I was nowhere near their house.” Liam stutters over his words.
I would have laughed at his horrible lie but my attention was still on Eric and the fact that he had called me his daughter.
“I don’t believe you.” Amy whines as she crosses her arms over her chest.
Eric grins triumphantly and gives me a quick wink before turning his attention back towards the train wreck happening right in front of us.
“Come on, Babe, you know I don’t want anything to do with her. I hate her, remember.” Liam tries to calm her down.
“I hate him just as much.” I chime in before taking another bite of my sandwich.
“He could never compare to his brother no matter how hard he tries.” I add harshly.
Liam glares at me but I continue on eating my sandwich.
Eric’s presence was giving me the strength I needed to stand up to Liam.
Liam opens his mouth to say something but Eric clears his throat, stopping him before he could say a single word.
Thankfully the rest of the lunch period goes by without another word said between any of us.
Eric finishes his lunch before standing to his feet only to lean down to give me a fatherly kiss on top of my head. “I’ll see you later, Princess.”
I smile and watch as he leaves before standing to my own feet to leave.
Unfortunately I don’t get very far before Liam steps into my path. “I dare you to stand up to me without your bodyguard around.” He taunts.
I step right up to him without fear. “Get over yourself, Liam.”
“I’m going to make your life a living hell, Eve.” Liam then promises.
I shake my head and laugh lightly. “Your brother already made sure that my life would be hell after he left. Do whatever you want to me Liam it won’t make a difference.”
Liam’s eyes soften for just a brief moment. “He loved you.”
I snort. “He had one hell of a way to show that. He promised me tomorrow but tomorrow never came for him.”
With those heavy words I walk away from Liam.
I knew he would understand the meaning of my words.
It was something that Cole and I had said to each other often. He had always promised me that tomorrow would come for us, that we would have a future together.
But he had taken his tomorrow away from me.
I went on and he had stayed behind.
As soon as I walk through the doors of the cafeteria Eric grabs my arm and pulls me into a hug right before I burst into tears.
He holds me as he whispers above my head. “Just breathe, Eve. Just like we did before, repeat the words I told you last night.”
I whimper but repeat those words softly. “I’m broken, but I won’t be forever.”
“Good girl, now just breathe in deeply again before letting it out slowly.” He then commands gently.
I do as I’m told and before I know it my body relaxes and my tears
